I am also considering a legal name change!
i didnt realize how long the processing time for the 2nd card was lol
its a good thing that you can still travel with your old PR card in the meantime

I'm in the midst of changing all my other legal documents except passport.
Since passport change only takes about 3 weeks, I will make sure I get new PR first so I can travel without any problem.
I'd already started legal name change before I got my PR card, so everything was all ready to go when I got my PR card. They wouldn't change my driver's license with my COPR. So, I actually had to wait until I have a physical PR card. GRRRRRR ...

Did they just leave it in the mail box? Or you had to go to post office to get the card?

They left it in my apartment mail box!
The envelop has CIC address and "do not forward" print on the postage area.

well if you wanna travel in the meantime/ wanna change your passport now, you can
i called cic call centre last month or so (i still had time to change my name on passport but not for PR card)
i asked if i can travel with my old PR card and new passport while im waiting for the new PR card.
they told me i can as long as i bring certificate of name change!
well, i have decided to wait until i come back from my trip to change my name legally
but if you have to travel, you can

I thought they didn't send PR card to an overseas address :
Do you have someone checking your inbox in canada?
Well, you can call the call centre to see if they have any record of it.
I've seen ppl whose PR card was lost in transit.
If that's the case, you might have to ask for another card.
