"*Approved in principle means that you received a letter from the Case Processing Centre or the local office stating that you are eligible to apply for permanent resident status but that a final decision will not be made until all requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met. These requirements include medical, security and background verifications for you and, if applicable, your family members. "

So doesnt apply to me as I am a permanent resident. it's just the matter of time when they fix and finalize the COPR issue.

I need a proof of legal status in Canada from CIC which in my case is COPR.
My COPR is missing info on POE and the key date ....thanks to the landing officer..
Since I'm residing in Canada since 2010 on work visa; I am using the health card I had for 4 years -so I wouldnt have to wait 90 days...
Your status has changed, so you DO have to wait the 90 days. I had a Quebec health card before, doesn't matter. Since you status has changed to PR, the rule is you can't be on any health care for 90 days or even welfare I believe.

To CIC there is no such thing as approved in princlple. I don't know why people like to make up terms on here. It's either you're a PR or not, there is no middle ground.

thanks! interesting I've never heard of that option
what does it mean?
In the case of Ontario, you may be eligible for health coverage if:

"you have submitted an application for permanent residence in Canada, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada has confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence in Canada" (http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/ohip/ohipfaq_mn.aspx)

You would have received an email "Request for RPRF and updates", which usually confirms that you were found eligible.

Other provinces may have a similar rule; I haven't checked.

I'm not sure whether you would still fit into this category, if you're in that limbo where you landed but your COPR was not in order, so it was a suggestion as to something you might look into.

Nope, you have to have landed. There's no such thing as "approved in principle". It's either you're a PR meaning you've landed or, you're not (haven't landed, denied, etc).
See above for what approval in principle is.

Doesn't matter if s/he is a PR they will not be eligible until 90 days. I don't know how to make it clearer.

To Ontario Health Mimistry there is actually such a thing as approved in principle. In fact same is the case for CIC. It's the PR application which is approved in principle, not PR status.

My Lawyer, CIC, and the Person that helped me at Service Ontario that specifically told me you'll get your card in the mail when you're eligible. I applied for it a month or two ago, and my 90 days are around now.

You can apply for a health card without having the PR Card. I did it. It won't be sent to you until you've been a Permanent Resident for 90 days though. I got my Health Card and my PR Card the same day, Yesterday.
Yes. I have also used my COPR to get my health card renewed. I got my Health Card mailed to me 2 weeks ago.

I did not wait for 90 days for OHIP. I was on WP (with OHIP) and then after landing (no gap in residency) I applied for new OHIP and got it in 15 days. There was no waiting period because I have been living here for the past 2 years with OHIP coverage.

So if you have been in Ontario there should not be any waiting period.

Red_apple's case is different because he/she already had OHIP coverage, and has been an ongoing Ontario resident (as OHIP defines it), and would therefore have undergone the 90-day waiting period already. The waiting period applies when you first establish residency in the province.

The only issue is whether the current status (as either an actual PR, or as someone who has been confirmed as eligible for PR) allows him/her to renew it. It really doesn't make sense that a clerical error would cause both of those statuses not to apply.

hello Red Apple,

I am same situation as you, they missed exactly the same two fileds for my daughter. Me and my wife received the cards, however my daughter went for an verification.

But, she has the OHIP valid until 2015 Aug. I am waiting for the PR card to arrive, later I will send for the correction.

Please let me know if you have some other faster way to get it resovled.

Red_apple had a health card as a temporary worker. Once the status changes that's when the 90 days are applicable. I'm not going to reply any more as this is going no where. It doesn't matter what you had or didn't have, once you become a PR those 90 days come into effect to all cases when applying for a new card.
