Hi,

My wife finally got accepted to the Express Entry pool of candidates and waiting for an invitation. However, her work permit will expire in 7 weeks.

Does she need to apply to extend her work permit while she waits for her invitation? We tried and the questionnaire results tell her to apply for Express Entry.

Not sure what to do next?

Ed

Absolutely she needs to extend the work permit.

Being in the EE pool gives no standing or allowance to be in the country. Once/if you have an ITA you can apply for a BOWP but until that point you need to be in the country separately from your PR application.

Thanks,

Is the ITA the same as being accepted into the Pool? If not, then can my wife still apply for a BOWP? By the time she if/does receive her ITA her work permit will expire.

Also, we tried to apply online to extend her work permit but after completing the eligibility questionnaire it keeps telling her to apply for EE which we have already done. Did we miss something? We can't seem to get a code to apply to extend her work permit.

Thanks so much in advance for your help.

No, ITA is the next step once you are in the pool. Each month there are about two draws and depending on your points you will or wont get the invitation.

Is she on a permit that had LMIA?

No, my wife has an IEC work permit. She got a job after she arrived to Canada. I asked her to ask her HR department to have her current job register for LMIA. If they agree it will definitely get her selected since it will give her an additional 600 points.

On another note, I was able to figure out how to get to the online BOWP application, just needed to state that she will stay temporarily more than 6 months. We will apply online, I just hope it goes through even though she hasn't received her ITA yet. It took forever for her school to send the required documents to obtain her ECA. Now her IEC work permit will expire in 7 weeks and we're both stressed out.

Thanks for the information. If you have any additional information we'll be more than happy to take it :).

See eligibility parameters at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/work/prov/bridging.asp
You don't see to quality for BOWP.

apply visitor visa or paper based work permit extension just to buy some more time (eventually u will get rejection in this case, as have no strong reason for extension).

I'm in exactly the same situation reversed (my partner is now over the age limit for IEC).

Unfortunately we are not eligible for BOWP until you have an ITA.

I currently have a PNP and LMIA application in to boost the points in the pool. I've got til March to get one of these through!

Wrong. Your're not eligible for BOWP until you get an AOR. And it's not the only BOWP eligibility criteria. For example, you still have to have a valid WP when applying for BOWP. See the link I posted above.

Hi anarsoul,

Is getting accepted to the Express Entry pool of candidates the same as an AOR or is an AOR received after the ITA?

PK,

Do you mean apply for a BOWP by mail instead of online?

AOR is received after receiving an ITA and submitting full application.

Be careful trying to extend an IEC visa, they are not eligible for implied status and you might get your wrist slapped if she keeps working.

Then what should my wife do? Should she just apply for a work permit instead of an extension?

She most likely will not get her AOR before her IEC work permit expires. ???

She can apply for a WP if her employer got an LMIA for her. Otherwise she either can change her status to visitor or leave Canada.
Btw, ozlis is right, IEC is not eligible for implied status, so it's quite likely that she'll have to stop working, since WP processing time is ~4month.
