I'm just tossing this out for anyone:

A good way to gain experience (while your spouse is waiting for PR) and network is by doing volunteer work. It's best to volunteer in an area that fits your job interests.

?????????????

I was wondering about this.. My wife wants to work.. obviously she could volunteer at a church or food bank.

But she wants to work as a nail technician in a nail shop at the local shopping mall for example. Is this allowed you think??

I can't find where "volunteer work" is spelled out with details. Its a grey area.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/fw/fw01-eng.pdf Section 5.1.
Working in a "nail shop" is not permitted.

Good option to gain some experience...

No, it is not a good idea to volunteer and work for free.

Why would you give any Canadian employer the opportunity to use your time without pay?

Even in China you get paid something for your time.

It is a waste of your time. You will not get a job volunteering.

Volunteering is a major scam going on in Canada.

You will be better off using your free time to build contacts and make friends. Yes, I realize sometimes you achieve that through volunteering, but I still think this is not in your best interest.... unless there is a cause you really believe in.
