Hs anyone ever applied for a Visitor's Visa for their spouse while waiting for the PR to get prosessed? Is it a total waste of time? Does it affect the PR visa application if you are refused? Thanks
A visitor visa refusal won't adversely affect the PR application . . . it's true, though, that applicants from non-visa-exempt countries are routinely refused visitor visas when they have spousal PR aps in process. This is not necessarily true, though, for applicants from visa-exempt countries who come to Canadian ports of entry accompanied by their sponsors.
We did it. Once sponsorship was approved in Oct we applied for a Temp Visa in Nov and got it. My wife has since been here for Christmas and New Years and gone home to wait for the interview or any document requests and any next steps.
This was after she was denied to visit before we were married.
Following the process and having sponsorship approved already can actually help the application as well. You are already following the process properly. Coming to Canada now and overstaying would just screw up your PR application that is already in the works.
Make sure you mention the PR application in your paperwork.
And of course, as per the temp visa rules try to show you intend to go home at the end of the visit.
