Visitor visa to open work permit?

Hi All,
My visitor visa 6 months validity after first entry is going to expire soon and i applied for spouse open work permit. it is in processing state since last 4 months and there is no update. any suggestions what to do. can i stay after my visitor visa validity expires as my open work permit application is in process. any suggestions, please do let me know.
