Hi

I hope someone can answer this question. My mom is here with me as a tourist visa for 6months. Is it possible to apply an supervisa here in canada? Instead of applying an extention im thingking just apply supervisa.

It sucks that i cant petition her and my dad because of the temporary suspension and the backlog for pending applicant is crazy!!! I heard the processing time is taking up to 5yrs or even more?! I hope they must do something about this.

I have heard cases where you can request longer ext. At least 1 got for 2 years and another was told by immigration that you can request 1 year as well but as far as super visa goes, it has to be through home country

My folks are here and I intend to ask a longer ext as well, but my sponsorship case is almost on the finish line as well

Oh, my folks are not here since 2008, they just came like 3 weeks ago. But on a different note, I have got 3 consecutive extensions of 6 months each in the past for them

Yes, you can apply for extension through Super Visa if your mom is already in Canada on a visitor visa. My mom came here on a Visitor Visa, and after 6 months, I applied for extension of 2 years through Super Visa, and was approved. See the following from Super Visa FAQ from the CIC website:

"An application for a new single- or multi-entry visa must be done from outside Canada at a visa office.

However, parents and grandparents who are in Canada on an authorized stay of up to six months may apply for an extension of their status of up to two years by submitting an application to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta, as long as they meet all the criteria for the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa. These applications will be examined on a case-by-case basis."

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/visit/index.asp#superVisa

When applying for extension through Super Visa, your mom needs to satisfy all the requirements of Super Visa, i.e., purchase medical insurance, pass medical examination, and you, as the son, should have minimum LICO income level.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Each insurance company offers slightly different coverages, so the prices will depend on the insurance company that you choose and also the age of your parent. I used the following website to compare different options and picked up the most suitable one:

My mom already had a visitor visa until 2016, so there was no need to get a Super Visa stamped on the passport. But I applied for a 2-year extension through the Super Visa category when her 6-month stay was about to expire. As long as you satisfy the super visa requirements, it shouldn't be a problem to get a 2-year extension.

Tx. I am still not clear. You filed out the regular ext form? requesting 2 years or filled out a super visa form?

My folks have it till 2016 as well
