Hello All,

My parents got visitor visa for Canada. I have booked ticket for exact 6 month 1 day (including return ticket date) will it cause an issue? I heard that on arrival of Canada CBSA office stamp passport for new return date.

Just wondering about will exact 6 month return ticket cause an issue at immigration.

CBSA rarely stamps passports these days. If they did stamp the passport, that would likely mean your parents would have only been approved for a shorter stay in Canada.

The maximum stay permitted by a visitors visa is six months, not six months and one day. The six months starts from the day of admission as day 1. A return ticket six months and one day from date of admission is technically overstaying the visa. If CBSA were to review the return tickets, they may have an issue with that.

Thanks for the reply K.H.P.

Actually, their Arrival date is 14 Nov 2019 (From India)

Departure (return ticket) date from Canada 14 May 2020 and they will reach final destination on 16 May 2020 to India.

If I calculate from 14 Nov – 14 May their date difference will be 6 months. Please correct me if I am wrong or I need to calculate from 14 Nov- 16 May.

Well, you wrote "six months and one day" above so I went based on what you wrote.
You are right. K.h.p. I am just confused about date duration and also wondering that what happen if immigration officer needs to check return ticket as my parents are flying for the first time in Canada. What you think about date and timeline for ticket ? do I need to change return ticket or it will have no issue.

i personally would have given myself a few days buffer, what would you do if the flight got delayed or cancelled? You have given yourself no wiggle room and technically that would be overstay then. Which could give them troubles in the future.

As long as the departure date is within six months (not longer) from date of admission. However, remember that six months is the absolute maximum without an extension. A border officer may only admit your parents for three weeks or two months or any other number. I would personally have set it to be a week or two before the six months.

That being said, CBSA officers at primary very rarely ask to see return tickets any longer.
