My parents plan to visit us on visitor visa of canada this year. How much Gold can they bring in for
1) their personal use which they will take back when they go back
2) to gift us and the gold will stay in canada

Are there limits? and do these need to be declared in customs?

as far as i know, they can bring anything valued upto cad 10k, customs declaration doesn’t specifically ask for gold, it just asks if there is anything more than 10k in total

How did it work out? My parents are visiting and plan to do the same. Did your folks have to pay any duty or tax?

There’s no duty or taxes. But anything over $10K cdn or equivalent must be reported on entry to CBSA (any negotiable items: gold, silver, cash, bonds)
