Hi everyone, just wondering if I could get some help please.

I applied for a temporary resident visa to go visit my boyfriend. Now I know visiting for this reason raises red flags to visa officers but I wanted to be honest about my purpose of visit.

I’m a bachelor’s student in Sydney, Australia currently. I am a citizen of Nepal but I was born and raised in Hong Kong, lives there my whole life.

I applied from Sydney to go visit for 2 weeks but I’ve been refused under this circumstance that states

“I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on your immigration status.”

That was the only reason in my refusal letter. They didn’t even write that it was because of purpose of travel or anything. I thought I would be more likely to be refused because of my financial situation but this reason is just confusing. What does this actually mean?

I’m currently on break and uni starts at the end of Feb. I’ve been working full time during my break so I have saved up quite a bit and was able to show enough funds. When I come back I still have my job and my employer wrote that in my employment letter as well. I currently live with family so haven’t had to pay rent, I guess that doesn’t show a strong enough tie back to Australia or prove that I will leave Canada. But I’ve applied for visas in China, Thailand, Taiwan, Australia and been approved many times, never overstayed either.

I even attached documents showing my birth certificate, Hong Kong ID card, university Confirmation of Enrolment letter, employment letter and student ID card. And of course, all the other important documents they asked for.

What can I do to make my visa application stronger?

This is my first visa rejection. Please help.

Its difficult for temporary residents in third countries to be approved. As you are a student in Australia, live as a resident of another country, have citizenship of a third, it's going to be difficult to prove you will leave Canada as your ties to Australia are weak. Especially with your purpose of visit.
