Visitor visa for my Thai Wife

Hello,

We are planning on taking a trip to Canada, next summer (2013) and am curious how difficult it will be to get a Visa for my wife and child? We only plan on being there for 15 - 30 days.

I am a Canadian citizen living and working in Thailand with my Thai wife of 3 years. We have a small 2 year old daughter that we would like to bring with us too, to visit my family there.

She is a full time mom, so not employed and owns no land, or anything else of value. We rent a condo, and I work here full time, and we have a shared bank account, so nothing she can claim as her own. How difficult do you think this would be? This is the first time we are attempting this now that our child is at an easier to handle (while traveling) age.

We are planning on moving there in the next few years at which time we will go the PR route, but for this trip I would like a simple tourist visitor visa.

I am not sure I understand what you mean, this is all pretty new to me.

It's likely going to be pretty difficult for your wife to obtain a visit visa.

To obtain a visit visa, you must prove that you have strong ties to your home country and have no plans to remain in Canada long term. Since she is married to a Canadian citizen, there's a good chance CIC will suspect she wants to stay in Canada permanently.

By all means try and hope for the best. However there's certainly a good chance her visit visa is going to be refused.

I hope we have no problems. She has family here, and I also am employed here full time for several years so we must come back after our holiday anyhow.

Hi Jo, you can try I have recently applied for a Visitor Visa, my wife lives in Canada and shes a can citizen and so are my kids lets see what happens. I have a job here and my parents live and work here. Will know in about a week or 2 weeks time.

Oh wow, you are in for what may be a really frustrating experience! My wife (at the time girlfriend) applied in October 2011, and we thought we had the ultimate case (letter from her employer (for a very good position), parents, friends, bank account showing upwards of $10k CAN (not just a one time deposit, it had been there for nearly 6 months and accumulated over an extended period of time), proof of travel to the USA, HK, Korea and Laos, an affidavit signed by me, my NOA, a letter from my employer, proof of return flight, proof of funds to support (bank account, investment accounts), details of her University education, and a detailed travel itinerary). The reason she was coming to visit was to meet my family, as my father is dying of cancer. Needless to say, she was declined, accused of being a prostitute (directly to her face), and told she did not have enough money, travel experience, or a valid reason to come to Canada. We are now married and in the process of PR, and even though we are trying for the TRV again next month, I do not have high hopes for her obtaining it. At the end of the day, the ladies in the VO can give you any reason under the sun as to why you do not meet the requirements, sometimes defying any logic, and there is nothing that can be done about it.

That's sad to know BP. I hope things work out for you and your wife and she's able to come visit you soon! I keep on telling people here on this forum that canada emphasizes so much on bringing families together and yet they dont have a spousal visa class as many countires in europe including UK and others such as Aus and NZ have this class. Recently Canada has started super visa for parents and grand parents but still nothing for spouses. They need to create a special visa category for spouses.

Agree hopefully that there is also a category for a spousal visa. I agree that like them i feel frustrated that even you show strong application they will still suspect you not to comeback. My husband and I like you is on the same boat so we almost reaching a decision of giving up Canada than frustrate ourself of something that even posible makes it imposible. It is a terrible system... I wish everyone the best of luck! I have heard third hand accounts of a Sponsorship Approval for Permanent Residency aiding the process, but it seems I have also heard from as many people that this would be cause for an immediate decline. Has anyone heard anything similar?

Any news guys? I am thinking of going for a TRV for my wife but who knows, we'll probably get shot down. We've been married for 5 years. Her only ties to Thailand are her 2 kids. You reckon that is enough?

Hi steveee, sorry no one got back to you sooner... Did you have any luck? For what it's worth, everything worked out for my wife in April for her TRV, no interview required, even though she had no ties to home. I would assume at having kids not joining you would help out as proof she would return.
