Hello There,

I am on closed WP and have been in Canada since July 2016. I have a dependent mother whom I am planning to bring her as a Visitor from India sometime in April / May. Please, can somebody guide me with the answers for the below questions.

1. I am aware that a visitor can stay in Canada for a max of 6 months. Is there a possibility of extension? If so, what would be the possible duration till which a visitor can stay after extension?
2. How many number of times that she can extend? Can it be till the end of my work permit?
3. If not possible for extension, can she leave Canada for a week of so and then re-enter Canada after a week?
4. Is it mandatory to have a flight itinerary while applying for a visitor visa in India? Is it possible to book the flights after she obtains the visitor visa?

Many thanks for you endeavour.

Yes u can.apply an extention before 6 months of stay.she will receive temporary permit as visitor which shows how long she could stay.after 6 months you can apply again an extention as long as her visa still valid.
If u don't extend her stay.she needs to exit Canada and return in few day.

Many thanks Sean.

Please let me know if a travel itinerary is mandatory for applying for a Visitor visa.

Thanks again.

Hi,

1. For how long your mom will be allowed to remain in Canada will depend on the CBSA officer she meets at the POE. It could be for 6 months or less.

2. Yes, you can apply to extend her visitor status before the 6 months/authorized status ends. If you apply for successive extensions repeatedly then it will appear that she is no longer a visitor. Hence, it's possible that her extension could be refused or else she may be granted an extension for a shorter duration.

3. Again, for how long she will be allowed in will depend on the CBSA officer.

4. Yes, she can submit provisional bookings when she applies + mention she will buy tickets when a TRV is issued

Cheers
