Hi guys,

My mom was issued a 5 year visitor visa as her passport is valid for the next 5 years.I am a newly landed PR here and now my mom is already in Canada. During her entry the VO did not write any note on her passport as to when she should leave Canada. Does that mean that she can stay with us continuously for 5 years? Is there a time period for how long she can stay with us? We didn't apply for super visa, this was a multiple entry visitor visa?

no, it means she can only stay for 6 months, the 5 years just means her visa is valid for 5 years, meaning for 5 years, she doesn't have to reapply for the visa. However, she can only stay for 6 months at a time, then she's expected to leave, but she can still return again. However, she should not be returning to Canada so quickly after leaving since it's likely she will be refused entry.

Thanks for the response.I would also like to check if she intends to stay, say for another 2 months beyond 6 months and then leave Canada, what are the options available for her?
Is there any problem later if she does that?

Yes - it will be a problem if she stays 2 months beyond the 6 months without applying to extend her stay in Canada (she will be in Canada illegally). And yes - this could cause problems later.

If she wants to stay longer, she will need to apply to extend her visit before the original 6 months is over.
