Visitor Visa Extension

My parents are Indian citizen. They have been here in Canada for 5 months on TRV. Their 6 months validity is due soon. They recently travelled to US for 3 days by car. On return to Canada there was no stamping on the passport. Do they have to apply for visa extension or does the period get reset?
