I have a question. I am currently in the US on H1B visa and would like to visit Canada on a visitor visa. Assuming that it is approved:
1. What is the period that they would stamp on the visa?
2. If the visa is granted, can I go somewhere else first before entering Canada if the visa is still valid? I don't know what canadian visa looks like or has what written on it that you can only go to Canada from USA only if you apply in the USA.

1) Usually the temporary resident visa (TRV) is valid for 6 months.
2) You can enter from any place once you get the visa as long as it is valid.

Depends on IO at the port of entry they can only issue a visa for 3 months. Everything depends on the IO at the port entry in Canada.

Sorry, but they can issue admission for as long as they want as a visitor. If it is longer than 6 months, they are supposed to issue a visitor record.

HI

PMM do you mean if my husband requested to stay 6 months they have to grant him the same?
No, they don't have to, but they can if he showed up with a valid TRV (if needed) and proof of funds to support himself and he could convince the IO that he would leave Canada at the end of his stay.
