I checked with IRCC support by email and also spoke to a VFS person. Both said there is no difference between applying on IRCC new portal or GCKey portal. Both lead to the same backend apparently. Atleast for visit visas....

I filed my parents visitor visa application in January 2021. Biomatric done in July 2021 but still waiting for the further update. Is that normal or my application stuck anywhere? Anybody suffering from the same sistuation?
For my parents, I submitted three applications. Two via the old GCkey portal (on August 15 and October 26). One via the new IRCC portal (on November 3). They have started looking into the October 26th application that was submitted via the old GCKey portal.
There is a tracker in place for spousal visitor visas. You can keep a track over there and update it too.
Update - I submitted a TRV application on the old GCkey portal on the 23rd of November. Received an request for passport email on the 6th of December. No appoinments available for VFS no matter how far out in the future or whichever city I check. The portal just logs out after a few seconds. Looks like their website is completely crashed or is under attack. Any one had any luck with VFS appointments?.
Also the processing time does not take into account the time taken to book appointments. So the indicators are pretty much useless.

I'm a PR holder and I applied for a visitor visa for my parents in Dec 2020 for my parents but could only do the biometrics in August 2021, my mum's biometric info was updated on the portal immediately but my dad's took a month even though its a single application. I haven't heard anything after that, I tried emailing/calling but all in vain. Does anyone know how long it'll take or if there's anyway to find out?

Yes i applied for my mom 1st application: june 9,2021 through gckey and decided to reapply again on portal nov27,2021,now waiting
