Hello All ,
I plan to have my mother visit me here in Canada from India this month. She has been granted a visitor visa. I'll be bearing all her expenses.

A few queries:

1. Period of stay :
I plan to have my mother stay with me for at least 6 months
It looks like the default or the usual period of stay for a visitor visa is 6 months. So can I confidently book my mother's return tickets 6 months from now ?

2.Port of entry officer questions
What questions can my mother expect at the port-of-entry?

Thanks,
Footluv

1. How long your mother is allowed into Canada is up to the CBSA officer she encounters at the border. It's possible she may be given six months. It's possible she won't be. You won't know until she arrives in Canada.

2. Just about anything: purpose of visit, funds to support the visit, ties to home country.

Where is your mother Traveling from? I am also planning to book tickets for my mother. she is from hyderabad..
Last time when my in-laws visited us , we booked one way ticket. I wrote a letter stating purpose of visit , when they are going to return etc.. My in-laws gave that letter to the officer and he let them in...this time also I am planning to write a letter for my mother..

Thanks for the response.

In that case , Any suggestions for return journey dates?

If I book the return journey tickets say three months from now, will the CBSA officer allow my mother only to stay for 3 months rather than 6 months?

I know I can book a refundable ticket but that comes with a certain fee penalty and I am trying to avoid that.

Thanks,

Hello , she would be travelling from Bangalore.
Were your in-laws allowed to stay for 6 months?

There are also chances that the officer will stamp the passport without dates. You don't really know until the officer return the passport.
