Visitor got work in Canada - Procedure to apply for work permit inside Canada

I got married in January, 2014 in Canada and currently residing in Canada with my wife who is a canadian citizen. I extended my visitor visa until March 21, 2015.

I worked as a volunteer with University professors for more than six months and recently I got a job offer as a Postdoctoral fellowship at a university in Ontario. Now I need to apply for work permit. Please help me out which method should I follow to apply.

I sent my documents to consulate general of Canada in Newyork but they sent my application back to me by writing "Since june 12, 2014 we are no longer accept applications by mail". I tried to apply online but there is a questionnaire which doesn't allow me to do so. I as the VAC office and they are saying we only accept application from United States.

What's your home country? You have to apply for the work permit through your home country's visa office.

You can only apply from within Canada if you meet one of the criteria below (which you unfortunately don't):

•are currently in Canada and have a valid study or work permit, or your spouse or parents have a study or work permit,
•have graduated from a program at a
◦Canadian university,
◦community college,
◦CÉGEP,
◦publicly funded trade/technical school or
◦other eligible school,
•have a temporary resident permit that is valid for six months or more, or
•are in Canada because you have already applied for permanent residence from inside Canada (you will have to pass certain stages in the main application process to be eligible for a work permit).

My home country is Pakistan and according to CIC website, embassy of Canada in Pakistan takes 6 months to process the application. I have sent my immigration file as well but still 1st stage is not cleared and I cannot go outside Canada as my immigration application will be nullified.

Few days before, I sent my application online as I was allowed to sent application online after responding to the questions on CIC website. I didn't know that I should call myself professional in Canada as I am a PhD doctor. Anyhow i hope I will get a positive response.

Do any one knows how much time CIC takes to process the work permit application in my case.
