Hello,

My parents are currently in Canada on visitor extension, their first visitor extension was approved from August 2021 to Feb 2022 and in January this year I applied for 2nd extension but I have not heard back yet from IRCC on that, its already more then 6 months since I submitted application for 2nd extension, So my question is If I don't hear back from IRCC before next month, Shall I submit new application again for extension or wait for decision ? Like Do we need to keep submitting visitor extension application every 6 months even if we don't hear back on previous application from IRCC ?

Thank you
DK

Wait for a decision. Visitor extension are not unlimited so if you are already finishing their second extension they should start thinking about when they will be returning home. This is especially the case since they entered on a single entry PHAC.

Thank you Canuck78 for your answer.

We had asked for 1 year extension when we submitted application for 2nd extension earlier this January, I am just waiting to hear back from IRCC, my parents already have plan return home in next 2-3 months time, but because its already over 6 months since I applied, I wasn't sure what to do. Yes it was single entry first time based on PHAC.

Is it alright for them to stay in Canada until the decision comes from IRCC, even if its over 6-7 months since we submitted application ?

Thank you

As long as you applied before the expiration of their previous stay, they have implied status until IRCC accepts or decline their extension. If they leave prior to receiving an answer, the implied status and extension are void.

As already stated they can stay until they hear about their extension. If you have not heard and they do leave Canada you should inform IRCC via webform. There is a good chance they will be asked to do a medical if they don’t have a valid one.
