Hi,
Me and my girlfriend decided to tie the knot a couple of months ago. With her being a Muslim and me being a Christian, it's impossible get married in the UAE (where we both work).

Since my girlfriend holds a Canadian PR (I hold a NZ PR), We thought about going to Canada and get married there; I know we can get married even if I'm on a Visit Visa; but is inter-faith marriage possible (church or civil) ? are there any restrictions (church objections, issuing of marriage license...)?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance!

Cheers!

Why not have your girl friend contact her mosque and ask them directly. I am sure the office will be happy to help.

Oh my! I am ALWAYS learning something new on this forum. So are you saying it doesn't matter if it is a civil or religious wedding, both would be out of the question? What if they lived together for a year and claimed commonlaw status?

1 year or 10 years makes no difference. Muslim women can't marry men of different faith in Muslim countries, AND there is no such thing as civil marriage or common law status in Muslim states.
That's the whole point of us going to Canada; spend few weeks there, get married, and head back to the UAE.

So the question remains: Are there any restrictions to inter-faith marriages in Canada (church objections, issuing of marriage license...)? any tips on how to tackle this issue once there ?

there are no restriction in interfaith marriage or whatsoever. you can have a civil marriage in your own case, it should be the best i guess. its usually the best and fastest, at least you wont spend money buying foods and feeding the large crowd in the case of a religious wedding :) :)

just make sure you go with your birth certificate, divorce certificate if either of you had been married before, your passport or means of identification. dependin on the province in which you both want to get married in, rule differs. but you can check this website if you decide to get married in ontario
