Hello,

I'm looking for clarification if I would be able to apply for TRV(Visit visa) for my fiance with current travel restrictions.

She does not have any immediate family members in Canada but has one of her direct cousin who is a PR already living here.

Any directions and recommendations help.

Thanks,

You asked the same questions a few weeks ago. Aren’t you PR and if so why haven’t you applied for spousal sponsorship.

You should be applying for spousal sponorship if your husband is PR. TRV have low chances of success with a PR husband as many spouses aren’t coming to visit but move. Where are you from?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am from the Philippines. Still no plans of moving to Canada since I am about to start doing my Medical Residency and Specialization which will take another 4-6 years. I just wanted to visit him for a couple of months.

You can try but you will need to show strong ties that you will return. Residency proof, property, job etc.

This is noted. Will include proof then that I own and run a private clinic and family business. Thanks for the insight.

Are you aware how difficult it may be to practice medicine in Canada as an IMG and that you'll need to repeat your medical residency in Canada if you can get a spot? There are very few residency spots left after Canadian students get selected which limits how many IMGs get licensed. Many specialists also have difficulty finding permanent jobs in Canada. Perhaps your husband is planning on moving to the Philippines to settle there.

Yes, that's why I do not have any plans on pursuing a medical career in Canada as advised by my husband. We already had a talk about it even before getting married. Thank you for the heads up :)

If I had no plans on practicing medicine I’m not sure I would be able to go through 5 years of hell doing my residency and being separated from my spouse.

I'm not married yet, I wanted to gauge if applying for TRV now and then going for spousal after getting married is a route that is not too complicated. My fiance is eligible for Express entry as well, but I want to make sure if applying for TRV could be a good back up in case something does not work out with EE.
