You should show you own funds or there will be a very high chance of refusal.

For a study permit, you must show at least $25,000.

For a visitor visa, ideally you should be able to show at least $10,000.

For visitor visa, you need to show your own funds, travel history, ties to home country and reasons to travel. A visitor visa is just to visit and see sights. You cannot work or study.

1. A study permit is to come study. You need to get admission to a college/university. Take IELTS and pay tution, and show at least $10k Cdn in your account. Then apply for a study permit and justify costs with higher pay, advance education etc.
2. A visitor visa is to come visit Canada and see the sights. You need to show travel history, ties to home country, funds and reasons to travel. If you want to come visit Canada, then you need to show funds for airfare and then cost out accomodations, food, and other expenses.
