My spouse (of Indian nationality) and I were married in Dec 2014 in India. We plan to submit the outland sponsorship application sometime in Apr 2015.
My question is, can he come to Canada on a visitor visa immediately after the application is submitted? What kind of difficulties might be encountered?

Thanks!

Spousal application applied for my wife in Abu Dhabi: March 2014

Received email from Canadian Embassy Abu Dhabi to submit the passport: Oct 2014

Passport Submitted: Oct 2014

Visa stamped: Oct 2014

Wife landed as PR: Nov 2014

My two cents ....... It is a common understanding that once you have applied for spousal sponsorship, you cannot apply for the visit visa for your spouse and she/he can not visit Canada and live with you while your application is in process ...... this is absolutely wrong ..... After applying for spousal sponsorship for my wife ...I immediately applied for her visit visa and I attached a letter with the visit visa application mentioning honestly that my wife's immigration application is under process and since the process takes time my wife would like to visit Canada and see me and there is no reason why she will stay in Canada more than the authorized days because her immigration application is already underway.

Applied for visit visa: April 2004 ... Got 2 years multiple visit visa in 3 weeks ...... she came to Canada in May 2014 and only went back to UAE in Oct 2014 to get her Immigration Visa stamped and came back to Canada as PR in couple of weeks.

So, I will say don't wait and give it a try ....... it has no effect on your spousal application and you can live together while your application is in process.

Hope this will help.

Many thanks!!

Thank you for your help! We are applying from Greece which is a visa exempt country, if I am not mistaken, so would we just explain ourselves at the airport and hope my husband and son are granted entry?

He can apply for a TRV but with a spouse in Canada and a PR app in process, the chances are slim. The above poster's spouse was one of the few who have been approved; the vast majority are refused. You can still apply but don't put all of your hopes on it.

Yes, Greece is visa-exempt. Bring proof of the PR app, like the sponsor approval or the fee receipt, and proof of finances. The words you use at the border are important. Your husband and son will only be "visiting" Canada while the PR app processes, not "moving", as they are not yet allowed to move to Canada. They should not be entering with more than a suitcase or 2. They shouldn't have any issues.

You can come and go anytime if you are from a visa exempt country. As mentioned above, think before you speak. Canadians are nice and friendly people and they will never bother you if you are honest with them.

One more question ;D
If the prv is issued while my husband and son are visiting in Canada must they return to Greece to get it or can it be mailed to them in Canada?

You would need up update your address with CIC so that they can deliver the COPR to the Canadian address, otherwise it would be sent to whatever address in Greece he submitted.

So, there isn't any regulation that you must receive the visa outside of Canada if you have applied outland?

if you require a visa to travel to canada, you will still need to get a visa to travel to canada regardless of your pr application. having a pr application submitted doesn't change the fact you still require a visa to travel to canada. if you are visa exempt, you can simply travel to canada with just your passport.

I mean the PR visa.
No a lot of people apply outland while staying in Canada and just use their Canadian address. You just have to remember to update the address if you will be in Canada long term. Also you must keep a valid visitor status in Canada while you await your COPR. Once you get your COPR you can 'flagpole' in order to land as a PR in Canada.

This post is helpful. We applied for our Spousal sponsorship in India in oct 2013. It still hasn't come through. I am in canada while my husband is in India and just found out that i am pregnant, i have no other supports or family in Canada at all and at such a time need it . Want him to come here at least on a visitors visa/ But his passport is with the CIC in Delhi , India

How do we go about applying for his visitors visa.

Please help and advice.
