Hi all,
Recently my visa was rejected for the following reason. I have applied for MBA in business administration and also got a scholarship of $5000

Purpose of visit
Proposed course is not reasonable in light of past and present studies

My profile is
10th - 57%
12th - 67%
Graduation- 58%
P.g in business administration - 60%
P.g done from distance learning and after graduation I have 5 years of experience first in a hospital for 4 years and then in a manufacturing company for 1 year
While I was working in a hospital I did
P.g in hospital management which is 1 year course sponsored by the hospital

Now I have applied for MBA in business administration. They rejected my application for this reason only.

Can anybody suggest what to do. And where I am lacking behind?

Regards
Simran
Dear Simran,

It seems that your SOP was not good enough. Also please note that the Visa Officer (VO) has only got 15 minutes to go through your application. This means that he/she will probably read your SOP very quickly and try to make out why you want to study for an MBA. I have a suggestion for you. If you want to re-apply, you should do so very quickly. Please read through the rejection letter very carefully.

If the VO has only ticked on the box that "proposed studies are not reasonable" then you are in luck, because that means that the VO does not think that you have weak family ties in your home country and only your SOP and why this course is good for you is the issue.

So firstly write your SOP starting with the opening statement that your earlier visa application was rejected because of "proposed...." and you would like to outline why this course is good for you and relevant for you. You should answer the following questions very carefully.

Study Plan:

Why do you wish to study in Canada in the program for which you have been accepted?

What is your overall educational goal?

Why are you not pursuing a similar program in your country of residence or citizenship?

How will this program enhance your employment opportunities in your country of residence or citizenship?

What ties do you have to your country of residence or citizenship?

If it has been more than two years since you have left full -time education, please provide your C.V.

Please make sure that you answer them fully. If needed, use the questions as essay questions and write them on your SOP. Or look through this forum for best practice SOP samples. But please write the SOP fully. Please remember even if you reapply 1 day earlier, you will get your visa 1 day earlier. So apply quickly, but be calm and read the rejection letter at least 10 times before re-applying, so that you know exactly why your visa was rejected.

Thanks

Hi,

Can you ask the embassy? I don't know if the visa office will give you more details.

You can ask for the original letter that the visa officer have or noted. But it is a time consuming process. Check this link: http://www.canadianimmigrationpodcast.com/what-to-do-when-your-canadian-visa-application-is-rejected/

I agree with Hasan2015 on this. There is no need for a description, you are running out of time and time is the only thing you need right now. Please note when filling up the 1294E immigration form, this time you have to write that you were rejected a visa. Also by now, you mush have a UCI number starting with "s" so input that too. Second time applications in my opinion take longer to process than first time applicants. You will have received a "pdf" letter with the whole reason. Read that again. there are more than 2 pages on it probably. Read it fully.

The embassy will take at least a week to reply to your query, a week that you cannot afford to spend.

Did you apply online or on paper?

If you applied online through mycic, then you click on you application once you login, then you will see the messages on the bottom and click on the messages and you get the pdf letter.

If you applied on paper, then you get a letter with your passport (presuming you applied through VFS and submitted your passport with your application). That letter will say why your visa got rejected.

I applied paper based application but I linked my application with my cic but there is no such msg is updated. I got one letter from embassy but it has standard ans that your proposed course is not reasonable with your past and current studies. Then purpose of visit

Then That's your refusal letter. That's all they need. Your ties to home country seem to be okay in their eyes. You are in luck.

I stand by my previous advice. Re-apply. By god's grace you will get the visa this time.

Hello @enywmara, Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I also have a question. I got rejection in July for September intake. I may apply again in sep intake or may be for January intake. My concern is that my IELTS will expire in Dec,2016. Can I apply with the same IELTS for Jan intake? Please reply me asap.

Thanks

I think your IELTS was in Dec 2014 if it is expiring in Dec 2016. In that case, please remember that CIC likes to have the candidates take IELTS within 1 year of the Visa Application. So If you are applying in Sep 2016 then You should have your IELTS within Sep 2015 and so on. Just out of curiosity, why did you get rejected? Did they give you any reason?

Hi,
I need guidance. I am Masters degree holder of Accounting and Finance from Pakistan and have applied for DEP professional diploma in Accounting from Herzing college Montreal. I hope I will get approval letter from that college. I want to know whether my student visa will be accepted or not? What do you think?

Another question 'Can I help my husband to apply for open work permit along with my study permit application to CIC and under which category I should apply for my kids? My kids are under 6 years old'

You already have a master's and you applied for a diploma which is a lower level. If you applied for a diploma after a bachelor's degree then your chances would have been higher. If you want a higher chance then they will be expecting you to apply for a Masters or a PhD and will be looking for an explanation. From the VO's point of view it's unnecessary for you to do a Diploma after a masters so that's ground for refusal. I think you should rethink the program you want to apply for.

As correctly stated by anaqi, you need to choose a better course. Since you already have a masters, the only course the CIC could approve, according to me, is PhD. And yes, If you have a valid study permit, your husband can get an open work permit and your kids can get study permits dependant on you. However, please note that your husbands permit will be valid only as long as your study permit is and you would need to show additional finances for each family member. Also I strongly feel that applying for the entire family at the same time is like a sure shot way to get denied. You need to understand that as a student, CHC views you as a temporary resident and if you try to bring all your family over, they would surely doubt your ties to home country. I suggest you first get your permit done and then think of a way your husband and kids can apply.
