Hello,
My wife will start her ESL program in Toronto by January, and it will last 8 months. One month after this, she will start her Post Secondary full-time program. (a 2 year college)

She will need a Study Permit for the ESL, and once she finishes it, she'll need a new Study Permit for the college.
I can go with her as a visitor during the ESL (no need for a visa), and I'll be able to get an Open Work Permit once she starts the college. Thing is, I can only stay for 6 months. Is there a way I can stay the full 8 months and apply for the Open Work Permit without having to come back to my country? (we live in Brazil by the way)

Thanks

Maybe extend your stay

What if I, for example, stay 4 months in Canada under visitor status and make a short trip to the USA. If I come back, will I be granted another 6 months?
If you have good enough reason you can try to extend your visitors visa.

The only reason I can explain is: I want to stay in Canada to live with my wife until she ends her studies. I don't really know if this is considered a good reason.

Im not sure if that's a good enough reason. Maybe someone with more experience can shed light to your inquiry.

Hi,

I am at present an international student. My program will end on October 2018. My wife is with me in an open work permit.

I wish to extend my study permit for a two-month ESL program at a different DLI. Do you guys think I will be approved of a study permit extension?

Provided I am approved, will my wife able to extend her open work permit?

Thanks all in advance.

So this is only a personal view but it might take some convincing that you need to take an ESL course having completed a course which assume was conducted in English. Do you have no plan at all to apply for a PGWP either ?

Yes, all courses in the program I am enrolled in now are conducted in English.

I am not applying for PGWP. The reason for this is because I am attending a private college. Which I know international students who graduated from private colleges are not qualified to a PGWP.

I just wish to improve my English further. That is why I plan to enrol at the York University English Language Institute for a two-month program.

I will apply for an extension of my study permit and an extension of my wife’s open work permit.

Do you think this is a good plan?
