Hi,

We got engaged virtually due to COVID but got married a month ago in our homeland together in the presence of friends and families. We want to mention our engagement so that we can show the progress of the relationship.

My question is, can this virtual engagement have a negative impact on the application?

We are applying for outland online application.

Thank you

"Engagement" as a purely cultural thing with no legal meaning is in many cases completely irrelevant, and if so, don't worry about it being virtual.

Exception: if from a culture that absolutely requires it or considers it a particular step with ceremonies etc., esp if an arranged marriage, that's a separate issue. It may not look convincing if missed major steps.

Note that in any case, they 'll look at the file as a whole and things like how much time you've spent together.

That's for a virtual or proxy marriage, which are not recognzied as legally valid marriages in Canada. The question was about a virtual 'engagement', which mostly has no legal meaning anyway - so doing it online won't matter anyway.
Thank you so much for understanding and explaining it. Almost missed a heartbeat bcos of the earlier response.

do you think we should add virtual engagement? It was held virtually exactly a year ago when there were travel restrictions.

people do it and don’t do it. It’s upto them and isn’t an absolute necessary step.
