No, it's not a bad thing. It is your only access to the information on your immigration file and most people apply for the notes at certain stage.
In your case, I think it may be early.
However, based on the stats for the applications similar to yours, you might indeed be near the end of the process. Usually, when the sponsored person is a female with short/simple personal history, the background process is straightforward and the file gets processed quickly. Kind of discriminating against men and people with more interesting(so to speak, don't get me wrong) life experiences, but, heck, lucky for you.
Good luck to both of you.

I applied in April 2013, female, no criminal record, no health issues, never lived outside Germany, except now in Canada.
GCMS notes from last week show: Nothing. They are not working on it

Makes you wonder how long does it actually take them to do an application. On my notes there was an entry done nov 22 but who knows what for. They should commensate us for delays. At least pay for our honeymoons hahahaha. All of us in this forum are a fraction of all the applicants. Sometimes i feel like we are the 20% that dont get processed in the estimated time.

They dont really care about any of us..its just sad that they are taking forever to do this, even them being on strike you would think they would speed it up...y couldn't we skip paying taxes for the months they were on strike...that would only be fair haha

I got my first grey at 21 and started thining in the back way before this hahahaha and this process hasnt helped my cause. Some say it depends how your app was put together, apparyently the take the ones that are better organized. For 2 weeks my room was a work shop like arts and crafts with scissors, glue stick, coloured paper clips, envelopes, table of contents on each envelope.... To make their life easier but they haven't made mine easier. To add to the comment, vienna wasn't on strike which makes it even worse. Problem is they are back-logged thanks to closing the embassies in the balkans and having everything go thru vienna. Since april 2012 they have been digging a bigger hole for themselves. It will take a few years before they will be able to process applications in a timely manner or maybe the "6 month" average will no longer happen and people will just have to accept it and wait 12-24 months.

We phone the MP office 2 weeks ago,
she respond to us on the email that she likes to discus the case and to phone her.
WE try to phone her on Thursday and Friday and we didn't have a chance to reach them.
WE will try once again in Monday.
Is it normal for the MP office to ask for us to phone back. Or they usually have a short email back to you.

please anyone what does it mean by the MP Office (we should discus the case)?????/
have a great weekend.
Peki,
When I first contacted my MP, I was asked to come to the MP's office to explain my case. I told them that I was out of country accompanying my husband and briefly explained our situation, the waiting nightmare, and asked them kindly to make a Ministerial Inquiry into our case and gave them all the details they needed to do so. They got back to me a month later saying that the VO informed them that the background checks were in process. That was a year ago.
I changed addresses(in Canada) in the meantime and now have a different MP whom I contacted by email on Thursday, explained everything and asked her to make a Ministerial Inquiry into our case. I also told her that I understood that she couldn't influence the decision, but maybe her inquiry would get the things rolling. I am still waiting to hear from her. So, you can talk to them in person, email them the details and talk to them on the phone, i.e. the sponsor can.

Oh, i did the same
Made sure everything is papercliped and in order, so that they dont have to dig through the application, but i guess we r not as organized as they would like or whatever it is thats taking them forever to finish the app on time. All the extentions pf processing times r ridiculous and if they do extend it to 15 mnts i think ill go into early labor...ill just make sure i call them at that time so they know what im going through alone cus of their lack of work :)

Oh, you misunderstood, by quickly I meant - within a year. :) You are at 9 month mark, we were there 14 months ago. They asked us for my stepson's fingerprints(who was in Canada) in October 2012 when they did his RCMP check and a new police certificate in November 2013.
I heard that the background checks for Canada/RCMP et al. take forever, and that is one of the reasons inland app processing times are always longer. So the fact that you are in Canada could add a few months to your app. Hope not.
Good luck

Hi guys and hello to the new members!

If I understand correctly they don't start the eligibility process - ie checking whether the relationship is genuine and so on - up until the background checks are done. So in theory up until that point the process is the same for each and every VO. That being said the length of the background checks is not affected by the fact that Vienna is understaffed since they are carried out by third parties. How on earth is it possible that Paris can have the same background checks in a fraction of Vienna's time? I know, this is a rhetorical question and I wish we knew all the answers!

I don't know about you guys, but I'm kinda used to the waiting and am still optimistic. What really pisses me off is friends and family constantly inquiring what's going on, asking the same questions over and over again. It's almost like they assume that it is my fault that I haven't had my PR yet, I obviously did something wrong. It is even harder to deal with than the waiting itself. Sometimes I just don't feel like talking to anybody cause sure it will come up eventually - most of the times this is the conversation starter. Great way to put me in the mood for a nice chit chat LOL

I will have to disagree, as per entries from the GCMS notes that I received mid August 2013:
Criminality: not started
Medical: passed
Eligibility assessment: passed (this entry was made 01/18/2013)
status: passed
security: (this field was blank)

in the ecas it also says: We started processing your application on January 18, 2013

Replies to our inquiries in April and Nov 2013 were: Once the background checks are completed you will be informed about the further steps in due course.

Based on this, I would have to say that they start with the eligibility first. There is no point in doing background checks if they feel that the relationship is not genuine. I might be wrong, this was my conclusion after reviewing the GCMS notes.
However, since then they might have changed the way they process applications.

I remember growing up and especially being serbian the main question is when are you going to get married....got annoying so after awhile i would just say saturday hahaha they give me this look like very funny smart ass. Now when im married its whats going on why isnt your wife here, whats taking so long, you should call them, you pay taxes so they should process you right away hahahaha and having been with my wife for 3 months the next question is whats new? Thinking we are expecting a baby. Asking if we will make a wedding when she arrives....its endless. After awhile you tune it out and give people an automated answer like a generic email. Some told me to go to vienna hahaha and i ask them to do what? Complain and get escorted out of the embassy? There has to be a better way. If they at least gove you a timeline and say a decision will be made by this and this date....fine. This way is just torture.

they have started my background check back in May but the eligibility status was 'not started' in November. weird.
