Hi everyone,

Its been 26 months since I applied. I called CIC in April and they sent a note to citizenship officer who said that my file is in line and that it is a routine application. They said they will give me a test date by July end/August 2014
They also said my internal background check has expored though that they can do in 2 days.

When I called today, CIC call center said that they will send another letter but cant do anything else...

Not sure what can I do at this point? Should I contact the local MP? This is really frustrating, more so because CIC people don't listen and give different information each time!!

My timeline is as follows:
June 18 2012 - applied for citizenship
June 22 2012 - Rcd application for citizenship
June 28 2012 - Rcd the discover Canada book
Jan 8 2013 - Started Processing
July 5 2013 - Reach surrey office
September 2013 - Started processing in Surrey office

Can you give us some information as to why your application is taking so long?

I wish I had an answer. Each and every time they say it is a routine application. There are no red flags, everything is good!

I'm assuming it's because I was just 5 days shy of the 1085 days or whatever it was (don't have my papers with me right now).

But I counted time away with my Canadian common law partner while she was doing her post doc in Seattle and business trips I took while working for a Canadian company which, as I know now, shouldn't count against my residency dates. In hindsight I probably would have had an immigration lawyer or consultant go over my documents before I submitted them....

Vancouver and Surrey are one of the slowest CIC offices,
when I applied I was thinking this will take 2 years, then got surprised of the test date after 7mos.
the loooong waiting process will come to an end for sure

@Jialidia if you call cic and get the standard reply then try the advice bellow, i was reading something about negotiating with airlines, but i think it applies in our case as well!

Hang up and call back.
Phone reps are humans, and therefore they’re not all of the same temperament. If you’re having a hard time meshing with your first rep, hang up and dial again for another one. If you can find out from your first rep what time his or her phone shift typically ends, it may help to make your second call just before that time -- when reps are almost done for the day, they'll hurry through the process and just might grant your wishes easier.

I called the CIC today but no good news, I was only told that my finger prints have been received and the file was in the local office, all I need to do is to be patient and wait. The agent wouldn't tell me when my file was transferred to the local office. He also said the longest wait could be 36 months. I hate this.
