Thank you! I still am not sure if they are full-time enough, so I think I might get reference letters for the other two as well. Although they're probably in a different NOC, but still A, B or 0 I assume.
Yes overall will work and its sufficient as overall will be more than three years.

I believe Belgium is pretty much similar to Switzerland in that you have a dual status as employee and student while undergoing doctoral research. If that is the case, check your employment contract and if it's stated that it is full time then that's all you need. There's nothing like being full time enough, It is either it is full time or it's not. If it's not full time, then "pro rata" your working hours and see what it comes up to.

Thanks a lot! And sorry for my late response. If anyone has any example reference letters that they can share, I'd love to receive them!

Sure, happy to help.

I used PhD to claim work experience and MSc for education. At the time of applying, I haven't been awarded the PhD yet (it takes about 6 month from thesis defence to degree award at my University) plus my CRS was more than enough to get me an ITA then.

I see your current CRS is 416 (which, in my humble opinion, is quite low to secure an ITA going by current trend) so I'll advice you evaluate your PhD (that gives you an extra 15 points) which will put you in the 430s. With some luck, you can get an ITA with that CRS score.

Also, I believe if your PhD is four years like mine, then you can equally max out on foreign work experience already without waiting till April.

Good luck
Hello, my case is as same as yours, MSc plus 5 years PhD experience. Kindly tell me, which NOC category you applied under. Also, in my country as per norms, we have to undergo a 6 months training program as ‘Pre-PhD Coursework’, which is a part of full-time fully funded PhD. I hope it won’t be a negative while applying under CEC and using PhD as experience.

As already noted on several occasions, the NOC is 4012. Please endeavour to read through this thread from the very first page, you questions have already been answered.

Hello all,
I have a similar question that I would love to get your opinions.

I came to US as J1 research scholar to have my PhD in 2016. But the program is relatively new and not accredited. So we are not called students but called "employees". I did my application based on this "work experience" since I don't have any other. I got my Employment Verification letter explaining my duties, annual salary etc. Do you think that it will confuse the officers? by the way, there is no RA/TA possibility. Full time lab-worker.

thanks

Hello,

The discussion in this thread is very useful. I am currently a PhD candidate in China. The doctoral degree here is a little different from Europe. It is full time and consists of mostly research work with minimum course work. The candidates are paid a monthly stipend during the tenure of their PhD work. Other than this, I have been involved with an industrial project as part of my PhD research work for which I have been paid an additional amount (after tax deduction as it is other than my student stipend). I have couple of questions:

1. Can I use the whole tenure of my PhD studies as the experience for my FSWP application? (My PhD is still ongoing; I will graduate next year)

2. Can I use the full time work on the industrial project which has been related to my research but for which I have been paid additionally in my application?

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you everyone for this wonderful discussion.
