US wife, Canadian husband

My wife and I got married juts over a year ago, we have started our PR application. A few more proof of relationship documents are required just because of them not turning up right on our lawyers email. My question is, and I hope someone may know, she plans on visiting me for the majority of the time while the PR app processes, but she will have to go back to the US quite often for medical and family issues. Do they issue a Multiple Entry permit, or will she get grilled every time she crosses. We had been offered a 6 month permit before, but she was only staying 2 days, and it was before we started the app. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

What province are you in?

A US citizen is usually issued a Visitor's Record (VR) which is normally good for a single entry.

If she's a US citizen, she shouldn't have too many problems re-entering Canada frequently as long as she remembers she's a visitor, not a resident. Many couples are very honest about waiting out the PR process together. It's best if you can go with her and do the requests to keep her with you. Either way, have her carry a copy of your PR fee receipt and AOR if you have it.

On an aside, with her family there and yours here . . . you should both consider getting yourselves a "NEXUS" card. Would be useful NOW and in the future. 50 bucks and they're valid for 5 years! Speeds things up considerably whether driving or flying.

I agree with truesmile about NEXUS. If you'd like to go that way, apply NOW! It takes a very long time 3-4 months to get an interview to complete the process. My application was approved in September and I found a November interview date in Ottawa. I was in Toronto so bought a $300 ticket to Ottawa and then my flight was cancelled due to weather. The next earliest date I could get was March 14th in Niagara. So now I will wait a total of 6 months and have a $300 credit on Bearskin Airlines which I don't think I'll use. In the end though it will be TOTALLY worth it.

I have more problems with the US custom agents when I want to come home than with the Canadian agents when I go visit my hubby, and I travel there once a month.

And very proud of USA! My aunt is a dual citizen, she gives the US customs agent her (canadian) passport that says she was born in Oceanside, CA and the guy was like "What made you so lucky to be born in our wonderful country?" She's like "My dad was a US Marine..." "Go on through ladies!" (My mom was with her) :p

So true! I was once asked why I couldn't find an American husband but it went like "So why couldn't you find a husband in MICHIGAN, WHERE YOU WERE BORN or TEXAS, WHERE YOU LIVE NOW?!" Like emphasizing the states and how I'm associated with them would scare me. I replied, "well I met him in California if that matters."

I've also gotten the question "how much US cash do you have on you?" I responded I wasn't sure and the officer said "You're not sure?!" So I got out my wallet and counted the 3 dollars and 16 cents.

:p

If anyone said that to me, I would rip their eyelashes out. What a presumptuous ass!

I go to the States once or twice a year to pick up packages that I get sent to a box there, since I live 10km from the border and some places don't ship to Canada.

I park my car two blocks from the border and walk across, since there's never any line when you walk across and the postal place is like three blocks from the border.

Last time I went, the border officer grilled me about why I decided to walk across instead of driving. Like wtf? I'm not going to get into trouble in the town of Sumas, Washington, population 200 while on foot.

Considering the obesity problems he should be glad people choose to walk. Plus it gives him less to search if he needs to. Sheesh.

:p

We got an interesting US Agent yesterday when hubby landed. It was myself, my mom (driving) and my husband.
Agent: What is everyone's citizenship?
Mom: Well she and I are Canadian and he's American.
Agent: What's your business in the USA today?
Mom: He's landing as a Permanent Resident of Canada.
Agent: And how do you know him?
Mom: He's my son-in-law
Agent: Oh that's too bad!
Me: :eek: ::)
Mom: For him maybe!
Agent: For someone it is! :D

Good golly...
