Hello,
I would like some information about the process if possible. My husband and I are both originally from Algeria but I have been living in Canada since 2001. He recently immigrated to the United States. Is it possible to start the process despite that he's not a US citizen but a permanent resident? Also, I'm still a student so what is the financial scale? If ever this can change anything, we got married in Canada.

Thank you for your help,
Dida

If you are a Permanent Resident or Citizen of Canada you can Sponsor your Spouse. There is no Minimum Income for spousal Sponsorship. But you need to show that you are not on Social Welfare and not Bankrupt.

Perfect, thank you for your response. May he study while we're waiting for the answer or can he only work ?

"Effective December 22, 2014, eligible spouses or common-law partners have the opportunity to work in Canada while they wait for their application for permanent residence to be processed."

If you will Apply Inland then he can work but he need to be present in Canada to Apply Inland but as i have Heard from Other Member that Inland Takes More Time for Application to be processed than Outland. So i would suggest to Apply as Outland and it should take less than a year.To Study in Canada he need Study Permit even if his Sponsorship is in Process.

If he is a US citizen it is highly urged that he apply Outland. Ottawa applications are currently being processed at an average of 6-10 months (The Visa Office that processes Outland Applications) as compared to **several years** for Inland during which time he has to stay in Canada. If you apply Outland, he will be free to travel, and save his right to an appeal.

Thank you both for your replies. I'll be doing what you suggested since it's faster.
