Alright, here we go! All sent!

I wanted to just thank the people on this thread for posting their experiences and answering questions. It was a tremendous help in the process. It took a while, but we finally got everything submitted. Hopefully I can share my success story with all of you one day.

Best of luck. I submitted on Aug 8 and should be up for approval any day now as my background check is in process. That should give you a good idea of when you will be approved!

Hi guys, I have a question for those that finally landed in Canada.
How do you transfer the money you have in your bank in the US to an account in Canada ? What services did you use ?

Thank you!

We had to get my partners bank to issue a Pay out. He previously banked with a bank that is only in New England and not available anywhere else. They sent it via mail as a cashiers cheque. He's. Even in CNada as a visitor for over a year and we opened a bank account jointly when he first got here. Hope this helps.

I kept one account open in the USA so the money from my home sale could be sent by wire from the USA to RBC in Canada. It was a 17.00 wire charge for wiring the money. I used a Canadian checking account and a USA savings at RBC. So I wired the money to the RBC USA savings, then moved it to the Canadian checking to get the exchange rate.

Thank you very much, this is what we are gonna do.

I also chose RBC and have their dual US/Canadian accounts as I still require a US account for somethings. Works out great for my needs!

I was just thinking about Paypal at the moment as well ! So if my husband was sending me his money through Paypal there would be no fees ?

If you have an established Canadian and US account it shouldn't be a problem. Depends on how much money, though. Paypal always makes me nervous as they can do whatever they want, such as lock it if they deem the transactions suspicious (though I've never had anything like that happen with just money xfer).

Wire transfer is safe though much more expensive and probably slower.

No foreign transaction fee? Exchange rate?
