I did send a photocopy of my passport with the application. I think the reason might be because the expire date was going to be in August of this year, 2016. Last month I went ahead and took care of renewing it and just got my new one in the mail.

Its just confusing that they did not specifically request a hard photocopy be sent in. They also didn't give me any type of address to send it to. So I guess I need to look up the Ottawa visa office and hope it's the right address and send a copy express mail and hope it gets to the right place in 7 days :o

This looks similar to a PPR (except they are also asking for updated application information). Some visa-exempt applicants will receive this at the end of the process to be sure the passport information has not been changed. for example, if a woman's passport has a maiden name, or if the expriation is within 6 mo, then they will want to confirm the information. if it did not specify how to send it, then send it electronically. this is certainly acceptable. all you need to do is reply to the message sent to you. if you want to send a hard copy to cover your bases then you can do that too, though it is not necessary.

Ahh, good to know then!

Thanks CDNPR2014 and thejeon! I just replied to the email with a photocopy of my new passport and updated address. Hopefully it all goes smoothly!

YAY!!! I just got "Decision Made" on my ECAS. I had just checked yesterday and it said "Medical results received".

I am so thrilled and hopefully it's a good decision. LOL

Best Wishes to everyone who is still waiting. Be patient and it will happen.

Anyone recently receive their FBI report? This week marks 15 weeks since mine was received. Should I be concerned yet?

I was checking the FBI site for a friend and it said 13-15 weeks and to allow additional time for mail delivery. Keep checking your bank account to see if they debited it yet. For mine, it was debited and then I received it I think a week later, something like that.

Hope this makes you feel better!!

Hi guys

Trying to figure out the best strategy.

I'm a Canadian citizen by birth and now a US citizen. My wife is South African and now a conditional permanent resident in the USA

She was a PR in 2004 but the card expired in 2009. She has been living in SA since 2004-2015 when she immigrated to the US.

I was planning on returning to live in Canada later this year (September). Should she renounce her current PR and have me sponsor her from the USA. How long would that take?

It may be that she is still a valid Canadian PR. There is a huge loophole on residency requirements for spouse. If you are able to prove that you have been under the same roof for the past 3 of 5 years she will meet the Residency Obligation. I have been out of Canada since 1984 and was declared a valid PR since I have been with my Canadian citizen wife the whole time.

I did not know of this and started the whole sponsored immigration processes and it was a very sharp boarder guard that that told me that I had not needed to apply. Check out the Permanent Residency section of the board and also look at the PR card application and the “Section D – Situation 1” stuff. If you are a Canadian PR and with your spouse, no matter where you are in the world, in terms of Immigration residency obligation, you are in Canada.

My husband [the Canadian citizen] is sponsoring me [the American citizen]. We have lived in the States since October 2010 and are sponsoring outland.

We are getting close to having all of our stuff together but I am still so confused about the Notice of Assessment that is mentioned. We have no co signer and he has had no income in Canada since 2010. On the document checklist it says that if we don't supply a Notice of Assessment, we have to provide an explanation.

What do we do/how do we proceed? Any help is greatly appreciated!

No expert on this, but you should be able to state that he doesn't have income in Canada as he was not in the country.
I would be sure to include any kind of bank or financial statements to ensure they see he has funds to support you immigrating.
Hope that helps!!

Just got this email from Ottawa. Has anyone else gotten anything similar? It seems straight forward enough, but just to make sure, they are asking for a photocopy of my passport which has at least 6 months before expiring and also an updated address of where I am living? Can I send both back together in a reply to this email? It says I can for the client information but not for the passport, so does that need to be a hard copy, because I thought Americans were exempt from sending in their passport?

I basically want to make extra sure that I am understanding this correctly if anyone can advise! I tend to overthink this whole application process and I get so nervous I will mess it up!

Also does this mean they've almost made a decision?! My heart is going so fast, I'm very excited! Thanks everyone!

Sometimes they do request photocopies of all the passport pages from visa-exempt applicants, but this sounds like a document request for just the main passport. It could be as simple as they lost the one you sent, or you forgot to send it, or someone spilled coffee on it, or who knows.

It's good news because they are actively working on your application, so once you send in the docs it shouldn't be too much longer.

You can just reply to the email for both documents, I think that sentence is inclusive. There is no reason for them to need a mailed copy.

Congratulations! It only took about 8 days for my COPR to reach my house in the states, so you should get yours soon.

So you applied 10-10-2015 and got your DM late Feb?! Not quite 5 months! That's amazing and gives me hope.

Did they have to request any more documentation from you? Did you submit your FBI check initially or just include a letter stating you submitted your prints?

Thanks!! That is good to know.
They will hopefully mail it to my Canada address though, since that is where I am.

I still have a visitor extension is process. I think it's funny that I will probably get PR before my extension approval. Oh well, it's okay. I want that PR. It is GOLD and the extension is only SILVER. LOL

For me I sent in both FBI report & Medical. They did request a form from me after 2 months of my application being in process.
I had to send in the Statutory Declaration of Common Law form.

I hope you get yours soon.

Smiles!!
