CIC received my PR app July 8, 2016
CIC started processing it on Sept. 27, 2016
Received Confirmation of Permanent Residence letter on Oct. 24 (but the letter says it was issued by CIC on Oct. 13, 2016)
Landing date was Oct. 31, 2016
*My story is a bit of a unique one in that I first submitted an inland app (by accident) on July 8. CIC sent a letter informing me that they only process Outland apps and that they were keeping NO record of my submission yet they did not return my application. I immediately sent a retraction letter on July 19 stating that I should have submitted an Outland app, asked them to return my app and informed them I would be mailing the Outland app in the next couple weeks. I redid the entire app, thank goodness I had scanned and saved my previous app, and mailed it in on Aug 9. On Oct 6, I found the entire second app I had mailed in Aug. 9, in my mailbox, returned from CIC. Their enclosed letter informed me they were processing my original app, the one they had written to say they kept no record of. Needless to say, it all worked out and my husband found the PR Confirmation letter in the mailbox Oct. 24. I was in the states visiting my family when it arrived at our TO address Oct 24. Luckily, my spouse joined me on the 28th in the US. We flew back to Toronto on the 31st. Upon landing at YYZ, I cleared Customs and immediately met with an Immigration Officer who interviewed and signed off on my PR paperwork. The officer then directed me to another room where I was assigned a Social Insurance Number. The Immigration staff was very pleasant. I expect I'll receive the official PR card in the next few weeks.
*NOTE: I did not use an attorney or legal counsel. I was very thankful for the helpful tips and advice I received on this forum. I'm thankful, too, that my PR status was approved before the US election results!
QUESTION: Next steps - Do I need to contact the US IRS or any other US government agency about my Canadian PR status?
