My husband crossed back with my into the USA (by car) this this scary crossing and they wanted to see his return flight home. Thankfully we had printed it out but imagine if we had not. BLAH!!!.. Always drama! lol - ill stick with 1000 Islands.

So, FYI:
the regulations for exporting your car to canada changed on Oct 2. It is now REQUIRED for the export to be initiated through the automated system AESDirect. In order to register for this system, a person must first obtain an EIN# from the IRS and take some sort of certification quiz. An export can NOT be intiated without this and border patrol won't accept exports without the ITN# that is generated from this system. However, if you happen to know someone who is already registered with this system, they can initiate the export for you and identify you as the "USPPI" without issue.

now to decided what to do next...

Hello, is there anyone who got his or her landing paper in NY or NYC? My online status was changed to DM last Wednesday or Thursday, but still no news.

took 5 days to get to CT. remember canada post isn't open on the weekend, so you can't count those days.

Great just saw this! :( - You got this information from the port I linked you ?

Sad part is I don't even know what all those acronyms stand for. I will have a lot of research to do because I NEED my car in Canada :( .. I dont have a choice.

i got this information from the information provided by the officer at the port. when i called the port, she said they can't accept exports outside this system. she gave me the website address for the system, which led me to emailing the system support, who then gave me the number to the "regulations" department. the regulations department explained to me the details.

i wrote the details in the other thread on the settlement blog we were having the conversation in before...

call the regulations dept at the number i quoted and ask for a superviser. they will explain.

Wow. Looks like I'll be better off selling my car in the US and just riding the SkyTrain/my bike all over Van...

Well for some folks, as an alternative they may consider selling their vehicle in the USA and buying one in Canada after landing. It appears that the price of vehicles may be cheaper in Canada than in the USA ( at least for the used vehicle market).
