Alright!! So I sent the application today. It was 1.44 kg and it cost me 15$ with the tracking number and the signature requested and the bigger envelope. So it was pretty good. Now, what's the next step? Of course, I will keep track of the package and wait for them to receive it. I mean, what's the next step coming from the Immigration office? Will they contact me by mail, e-mail, phone? What am I looking for?

Thank you in advance!

Best of luck to all of us :)

Congrats!
Now you wait, and wait.
I got an acknowledgment of receipt through email, then my sponsorship approval, and notification of transfer to Ottawa with my ECAS info.

Thank you all.

Now, how about the extension of the visa? Will they contact us through the e-mail if we get it approved? We just applied for it 2 days ago.

Nope, you'll get a letter in the mail with the visa or rejection. That's my experience.

Hi All!

I thought I would pop back in here to see how everyone is doing...it is so fun to see all the progress and smiley faces! :D

Hoping for good news myself in the next few months...all I want to do is buy a house with my hubby! Oh, and a job would also be nice...

I have a question for you regarding my next steps. My hubby was approved as a sponsor in February, and our ecas currently says "Application Received". Is the next step receiving COPR in the mail (after seeing "decision made")? Or will I receive a passport request first? Since we are 45 minutes from the border, and cross into the US quite often, I was hoping we could physically bring in my passport or any other documents if needed.

I guess I have the next couple steps mixed up a bit - thanks for your help!

The next thing you should see is ecas update to "IN PROCESS". If all is well and you paid all your fees up front, then you will get a passport request first. Otherwise you will get a request for PR application fee. From what I understand, you can simply send in a copy of your passport if you have a US passport. It can be electronic (via e-mail) also.

That's one option. You may go "In Process." You may also get PPR - passport request. PPR is the most common one, I think.

Ottawa VO issues the COPR, you can't get it from the POE.

We had a very pleasant landing experience today at the Sarnia Blue Water Bridge CBSA Office. The Immigration Officer had a much appreciated dry sense of humour and was very pleasant and helpful. The entire process took about 30 minutes. She kept the original B4 and B4A forms and made copies for us. We asked the question about traveling back into the US before the PR card arrives and we were told it was okay to do that on land but not by air until the PR card has arrived. You just need to have the signed COPR document to cross on land. We now start the journey towards citizenship.

I would like to thank all the people on this forum for all the help, advice, humour and positive encouragement. This is a grinding process and keeping a positive outlook during it would not be possible without the support of the people on here. I hope and pray that all of you still awaiting your application decisions get the results that you are seeking and that you appreciate that you are living in the best country in the world. I know I am

Canuck20--I join you in thanking all participants on these forums. I'm worn out from packing, moving, unpacking and all, but ever so VERY grateful to be "home" in Canada at last! :)

p.s. Where is the Sarnia Blue Water Bridge? Sounds lovely!

That is interesting .. we have a trip planned to Hawaii in June and my spouse will not have his PR card by that time (he is a US citizen with a valid US passport). Although that said, we flew out of Vancouver to Honolulu and back again in 2011 with no problems and he was a visitor at that time. We will be flying with the same airline (WestJet) -- should we be concerned?

My understanding is that as long as he has not landed and gotten his COPR (Visa) signed then he is still considered a visitor. Once the COPR is signed that document replaces the Visitor Visa. The officer removed the Visitor Visa from my spouses passport and restamped the passport and said to carry the COPR with the passport until the PR card arrived and then it replaces the COPR.
Hope this helps ;)

No, he doesn't need to worry. Between the time I landed and the time I received my PR card I flew between Canada and the US multiple times. The issue is that the airlines won't allow someone who is not from a visa-exempt country to board the flight without a PR card. But I've never had anyone from the airlines even look beyond the bio page of my (US) passport - that's all they care about ("visa exempt... let him board").

Once he is standing in front of the CBSA officer he's fine. There are protocols for verifying he is a PR (and the COPR will prove it to a CBSA officer, but not to the airline) - ENF 4 even explains how to verify it in the absence of any documentation at all.

Don't worry - you won't have any problems.
