You don't even have to be a landed immigration to apply for a job. To work in a job you must either be a foreign national in possession of a valid work permit OR you must be a permanent resident or Canadian Citizen. In all three cases, you must also have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) issued by Service Canada. Normally, once you have your COPR, Service Canada will issue a permanent SIN to you (it takes about 10 minutes).Tullysgirl said:Does one have to be a landed immigrant before apply for a job, or is the COPR enough?

what should i expect now ? my package will be soon returned with my passport, visa, copr ?
like how many days (or still weeks) ?
and one more thing.

thanks for the reply.Tullysgirl said:I got my DM on Tuesday and TODAY I got my COPR in the mail! Watch for your brown envelope in the mail!!
I suspect the other things will be returned shortly.
IDK about the address thing....
IDK. But the consensus I got was that once you get the DM, that they've already put the COPR in the mail. I found that to be true. My DM showed on Tues and I got my COPR today.UsCa said:thanks for the reply.
however , your VO was Ottawa and mine is LA.
does that make difference ? in processing time from DM to sending ?

Landing will take place on May 23.
Can we apply for a SIN with the COPR not yet signed?
You're not supposed to be able to do so, since without an executed COPR you are not yet a permanent resident.Canuck20 said:Can we apply for a SIN with the COPR not yet signed?
Thanks for clarifying that. We thought that this was the case.computergeek said:You're not supposed to be able to do so, since without an executed COPR you are not yet a permanent resident.
Notice that I said not supposed to - I've heard people say they've been able to obtain a permanent SIN from before actually landing. I just think that's a mistake on the part of someone at Service Canada.Canuck20 said:Thanks for clarifying that. We thought that this was the case.
