Hi everyone,

I am a Canadian citizen and my husband is a Mexican citizen who has now had Canadian PR status for over 1 year. We'd like to go down to the states for short trips (i.e. shopping, snowboarding), but I'm unclear on what application we should be filling out. Would it be a B-2 Tourist Visa or a "Laser Visa" for Mexican citizens?

Also, for the application, do we have to plan some overnight trip to book a hotel and give them the itinerary? Or can we just say that we'd like to go down for a day for shopping?

Thank you!
Maxy

Or I wonder if anyone knows a website I could check to find out this information? I've looked through the American and Canadian immigration websites, but can't see this situation addressed specifically.

Thank you!

I lived in Mexico for a few years before and from what I remember I would think it's better for your husband to get a B1/B2 tourist visa instead of the "laser visa". From what I was told, a laser visa speeds up the admission of a Mexican citizen the entrance to the US since the US officers won't ask for an I-94 but the catch is that it depends on where you're going. If you are just crossing the border and staying in the border city, you won't need an I-94, but if you go further into the US, you'll need it. I'm not sure if your husband requires to reside in Mexico for a laser visa and a B1/B2 won't require him that so that's another thing in favor of a B1/B2.

A Mexican citizens crossing into the U.S. from Canada? Get ready for some fun questioning from U.S. CBP. :D
