Hi

I want to know I must use the standard fingerprint card from police, or I can just print the PDF onto a A4 paper and have my finger on it?

Thanks

When I went and did mine, they wouldn't use what I had. They said they would rather use their own.

Most places nowadays use electronic fingerprinting. They scan the prints into the computer and they print up the FBI print card to submit to FBI. Here in Ontario, ontario police will only tell you to go to a private fingerprinting service, otherwise you could wait for weeks for appointment.

We used the private fingerprinting service and we were able to get FBI report after 6 weeks.

I just went to the local police station and did mine for $50.00 probably cheaper than going to a private company.

They did my fingerprints right there, then i downloaded the fingerprint card form straight off the FBI website and sent everything in the post with all the required forms.

Got mine in like 6-8 weeks I think.

Best of luck,

EDIT: Also, just used the police FBI fingerprint card and that worked sent mine in October 2013. But, I would just use whatever it says on the FBI website.

Where did you do your service? In Ontario or in another province outside ontario. If you were in a province other than ontario, you can get it all done at your local RCMP.

In another province, not Ontario.

Electronic fingerprints cannot be sent across the border to the FBI.

When I spoke with them by phone, I was told that while the FD-258 card was preferred, they would
even accept a plain sheet of paper with your fingerprints on them.

I opted to use the FD-258. :D

I suspect that the water crisis in Charleston, WV has had at least a minimal impact on processing times.

When I say fingerprints are done electronically, I meant that it is scanned through the computer and printed up on the FBI approved print card. That was what we mailed in to FBI. No more black inked fingerprints.

I saw that AFTER I posted my message. Oops!

Personally, I found the ink and roll method to be a bit...creepy. Having a stranger grab my wrist and roll my fingers in ink, felt almost criminal like.

Can you tell that I had never been fingerprinted prior to this?!?! :)

Be prepared to be fingerprinted whenever you enter the US by plane or boat. I have never been fingerprinted through the US border by car. But I have travelling by plane.

Really? When did that begin??
Does that apply to US citizens returning to the US?

You must be speaking about random fingerprinting, right?

US citizens don't get fingerprinted. I was because I am not US citizen.

I didn't realized you may be an American as you appeared surprised by this revelation.

I am an American and I was surprised. I remember hearing about this earlier last year, but didn't realize that it was already in place.

This piqued my curiosity, so I found this:

Office of Biometric Identity Management Biometric Procedures: Applicability to Canadian Citizens

Most citizens of Canada are not subject to the Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM), formerly US-VISIT, including:

Canadian citizens who are visa-exempt.
Canadian citizens traveling on Canadian passports with diplomatic visas or visas for international organizations (A, G or NATO).
Canadian citizens who are studying or working in the United States, who normally do not have non-immigrant visa in their passports.
Children under 14 and people over the age of 79.
Applicants for admission at primary vehicle inspection presenting a valid, unexpired, multiple-entry Form I-94 may be admitted without being subject to secondary inspection even if the applicant is not yet enrolled in OBIM.

Note: Customs and Border Protection Officers retain the discretion to refer a visitor for OBIM processing as part of the inspections process if there is a concern about the nature of travel.

Are most Canadian citizens visa-exempt?

All Canadian citizens are visa exempt. But US border agents can still ask for fingerprints despite this Canadians being exempted from fingerprinting. After all I was fingerprinted too and I am white 40 year old man born in Canada. Not naturalized Canadian in which maybe just maybe I would be asked for prints.

Besides what was I suppose to do. Tell them to go to h*ll and say they have no rights asking for my fingerprints?
