US citizen sponsored inland by Canadian wife, can I travel while waiting for PR and with OWP?

I am a US citizen, with a Canadian citizen spouse, and we applied for inland spousal PR sponsorship in July 2018. Also, I got an Open Work Permit (OWP) in October 2018.

I have a family emergency back at home (USA) - can I travel back home without jeopardizing my application status in Canada?

Best is to travel by car and bring your work permit regardless. This is a great question and I look forward to reading other responses. My husband is also a US citizen and we applied inland. Waiting for his OWP.

Historically, the risk has been low. The only issue is if for whatever reason you get denied entry back into Canada. But usually not an issue for US citizens, hence the low risk
