Hi All,

Kindly share your thoughts if aware -

1. Does WES consider graduation and post graduation in same subject as one course ? My friend has a 3 yrs graduate degree in Economics from Delhi University + a 2 years Masters in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, however, his WES evaluation says Bachelors degree 4 year course as per Canada due to which there is a huge drop in his CRS pts. Can this be an error from WES, should he raise a revaluation request or is correct?

2. In my scenario, I have a 3 years bachelors in commerce from Delhi University + 2 years of regular MBA degree with specialisation in Aviation Management from a UGC recognized college. Is there a chance that my education can also be evaluated as 4 years bachelor degree course? if this happens then my CRS score also drops drastically.

Please share your experience....

Yes. This has been reported earlier in the forum. WES usually doesn't make errors and there is no point in (or possibly even means of) asking for revaluation. This is also the reason they allow for a free provisional evaluation before applying for ECA.

An MBA can be treated as a Masters or a 1 year course depending on multiple factors including choice of school, course credits etc. The only way of knowing this for sure is by doing a provisional evaluation. Whatever that throws up will likely appear on your final ECA report as well.

Perhaps they didn't think that your friend's 3-year degree was enough and the addition of the two years made it a equivalent to a Canadian Bachelor's.

I don't think the same will happen to you but it's possible. WES evaluated mine as equivalent to Canadian Master's degree (I did an MBA with a Specialisation in International Business and a B.Sc in Computing & Information Technology.)

Doing the provisional evaluation will help.

Theres no polite way of saying this, but the only reason they do this is because the level of your degree and masters (from the university attended) is of the equivilent quality as a 4 year canadian degree.

Essentially the masters bar is higher in canada, hence having to get an equivalence certificate

Hi All,

So I just had the chance to look at the official ECA for my friend, and his degrees are evaluated as

CANADIAN EQUIVALENCY SUMMARY
Bachelor's degree (four years)

CREDENTIAL ANALYSIS
1. Credential Authentication: Official transcripts were sent directly by the institution
Country: India
Credential: Bachelor of Arts
Year: 2004
Awarded by: University of Delhi
Institution Status: Recognized
Major/Specialization: Economics
Canadian Equivalency: Bachelor's degree (three years)

2.Credential Authentication: Official transcripts were sent directly by the institution
Country: India
Credential: Master of Arts
Year: 2006
Awarded by: Jawaharlal Nehru University
Institution Status: Recognized
Major/Specialization: Economics
Canadian Equivalency: Bachelor's degree (four years)

So basically, they are evaluating his Masters as Bachelors too and then summarizing as higher time taken education, but, shouldn't they count this as 2 degress/diplomas?

Yes it will count as two degrees. That allows him to get 100 points in the Skills Transferability section if has he CLB 9 and 3+ years experience in the primary NOC.

The drawback is he won't get 135 or 126 points for education. He can only get 128 or 119.

I doubt if this can be shown as evidence towards 2 degrees because the duration for Bachelors and Masters collectively can't possibly be 7 ( 3 + 4) years!

I suspect that WES is summing up the 2 degrees (I'm guessing they are a 3 year Bachelors and a 2 year Masters) into a single 4 year Bachelors degree. So the choice in Education would have to be Bachelors only.

Yampower : Do you concur?

Gave it a bit more thought and yep, I concur.

A two-year programme can't possible count as a four-year degree. Unless it was super-accelerated degree where you got no breaks and went to class for 12 hours a day doing like 10 courses per semester.

Hi,

Yup I concur with you, however, the free WES evaluation tool is recognizing Bachelors as 4 year course and his Master's as 1 year graduate study!

May be it's his bad luck. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that they recognize my MBA and do not club it with my Bachelors otherwise my CRS pts drop from 459 to 427 :(

Thanks for your time....

Hello VSG,

It has been noted actually that for degrees like Master Of Science, Master Of Business Administration - it does consider it as equivalent to Canadian's Masters degree while yes there are chances on seeing discrepancy in their part.

Well do keep posted once you got an update from WES.

Good Luck.

I have seen a few people having their Masters degree(in arts) clubbed with their bachelors degree by WES and declared the total study equivalent to a Canadian Bachelors degree but yet to come across a person with full time MBA from a reputed university facing similar problem.

If your score is 457 I assume you have CLB 9 overall in IELTS.

I recently had my ECA from WES. I have two university degrees from Pakistan (3 yrs Bachelor in Computer Science and 1 yr Master degree in Computer Science)
The evaluation result for bachelor degree was "3 yrs diploma in comp. sc." and for master degree "3 yrs Bachelor degree in comp. sc.).

So you are right they sum up your degrees and convert it into single degree which matches Canadian equivalence.

So, pls confirm again.. in this case,
Will this applicant be eligible to get 50+50 points in skill transferability???

Only if the applicant has a PhD/Masters/Bachelors + another certificate/diploma/degree AND CLB 9 or above in all sections of the language test.

Plus you can't add these 2 factors to more than 50. You'll have to get the other 50 (if possible) from the next 2 set of factors which follow this.

yes, this must be first set of factors for getting 50 points. you are right about getting the other 50 from next 2 sets of factors.

ok.. so take my case.

I have Masters degree science and then I have also done bachelors in science (which is very obvious :D )
I have more than 6 years of work exp in one single NOC. Now if I score CLB 9 or more in all sections of IELTS,
will I get this first 50 here and then also the another 50 from next 2 set of factors??
pls clarify.
