Hi there, I'm a Canadian citizen through descent currently living in the UK and I am looking into gaining proof of citizenship for work purposes early 2015. I have seen that processing time may take 8-10 months or longer! As I hope to be working in Canada in three or so months I've been looking at an urgent application as a possibility. Should I wait until I get a confirmed job offer and use that as proof of urgency? Or would it still be considered urgency if I'm able to get an employer letter stating that they require citizenship without a job offe. I'm sorry if this has been answered but upon a quick search I can't seem to find whether you need a job offer or simply the intention to seek employment to qualify for urgent processing.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Don't be sorry for asking this question. There are only a few of us on here are applying through citizenship by descent. So finding information about our issues is tough.

Have you applied yet? I applied, I'm into 4.5 months of waiting. I've submitted two urgent requests after I submitted my application using two of the reasons listed on the CIC website, but apparently they weren't sufficient enough. I've also learned by calling the CIC that my application was moved to the Program Support Unit in Sydney, which takes the "normal" processing time and slows it to 24 months.

saria1 is right. I believe 99% of applicants are discussing about naturalization applications related issues here. Though it is not a bad idea to ask here; unfortunately most of us don't have any experiences/information to share with on the case you are asking. I hope some one will come up to help you.

Thanks both for the replies! Sorry to hear about your huge delay Saria, really hope you manage to get proof before then. When you submitted your urgent requests I'm guessing you stated you needed it for work and social insurance? From what I've seen there doesn't seem to be definitive answer for whether this works, as in some cases like in Donvalleys link it did seem sufficient, will you try again to speed up the process?

I'm just worried about whether I should apply now stating urgency and hope for the best, or wait until I can get a confirmed job placement for possibly a better case for urgency? I'll keep this thread updated as I'm sure sometime in the future someone will be googling looking for the same answer!

Yes, your correct in the reasons I used for urgent processing.

I would apply now, every month counts. If you need to add an urgent request later to do add an official job offer, that is easily done. I would initially send it as urgent too.

I've spoken with the director at CPC-S and sent an email per his request with all my information. I'm hoping to hear better news next week. Or, they will lose my file indefinitely.

Arraa,

I know its been awhile but I was hoping you could share what you ended up doing and your timeline? I am in a similar situation and would really appreciate it.

Thanks!!

I'm sorry to the person above who asked for the process, I didn't receive any notifications and forgot to check! I know this is an old post but hopefully it will help someone.

When I applied for proof of citizenship I applied for urgent processing (this was November or December 2014). I wrote a letter stating that I plan on seeking employment in the coming months and therefore need proof as soon as possible. This did not seem to work as I did not hear back from them and was told by email that it would likely be over 12 months before it is processed. It was around March 2015 I think when I applied to a couple of summer jobs. These were jobs that seemed to pretty much accept anyone as it was volunteer work but I figured it was worth the try. I got accepted at a place and sent the consulate the offer letter. The consulate replied saying that this would not qualify for urgent processing as it was not an official offer letter (the organisation offering me the placement stated that they couldn't give me an official offer letter until I had sorted out a proper visa!). Then for some strange reason, less than a week later I received my proof of citizenship in the post!

So it seems like at least in my situation simply stating my intention of work was not sufficient. However when I actually set out applying to places, even when I didn't have an official letter, this seemed sufficient enough for urgent processing. I hope this might help someone!

I had a job offer in the middle east. I applied under urgent processing in March 2015. Sent the offer letter and itinerary. After several calls one knowledgeable call center lady told me that urgent job offers will be considered if it is for a Canadian Govt job overseas and not private undertakings. So apply normally and you might get lucky with a 6 months processing. I have completed nine months and waiting for an oath invite now.
