Can anyone tell me what am is my girlfriend/common-law suppose to do if I am sponsoring her outland?
You said she's with you in Canada, so why would you want to sponsor her outland? If you do an outland application, her visa office will be Manilla (Philippines), which means if the visa office requests an interview with her (or the both of you), she will have to fly to Manilla just for that.

The fact that she's already with you in Canada makes an inland application a far better option for both of you.

If you're going to be starting the sponsorship process, you should start at this page where you will see the checklist and all the various forms you have to fill out, and then I would strongly urge you to read through the sponsorship instruction guide.

The answers to the majority of your future questions will be answered there.

Also, please note that those links I gave you were for inland applications. If you really insist on going outland, the starting page is here.

She is from Japan and I am wondering if anyone can share with me the important things she need. Information such as a health record..etc and how abouts to go with that?
Is she suppose to get record for her health from japan even though she is here now? Or, should she get her health checked here etc.
She can get her medical exam done by the nearest approved doctor from the Panel Physician's list.

Hello All,

My common-law and I are stuck in difficult situation right now:

- We do not have her (applicant) birth certificate right now, she is waiting for her mom to send it.
- We do not have her original police report/certificate right now (supposedly take 2-3 months to receive)
- Her visitor visa expires February 28th.

Questions:
1) If her birth certificate is in japanese, does it need to be translated to english when submitting it in?
2) The document checklist says "If you do not enclose all the required documents, your entire application will be returned to you" - will that be true if we are missing 1 or 2 things?
3) Will it still be a good idea to extend her visa now even though it is only 22 days till it expires or just send whatever we have before the visitor visa expires?
4) "Additional dependants/delcaration (IMM 0008 DEP)" form - do we need to submit this if we do not have any children?
5) Does she need a "Family Register" card/information of her family for the application? A few people on a Japanese forum has mentioned that and I just want to confirm this.

Any advice is appreciated. We are applying inland and getting a bit overwhelmed. Sweden has been an angel helping us along for this, and any additional support is highly appreciated.

Make sure to include a police certificate. If you dont have one it will be returned. I had to include 2 certificates. If I had sent it with one and a letter explaining I will send the other that would have been fine but you need to include at least 1.

Im not sure about the birth certificate thing but i think you might have to as the IO will not be able to read it or verify it.

with the visitor visa, you should extend it as soon as possible. However, for me, for example, I will be applying at the border 4 days before my current visa expires. If you are applying online or by paper within canada and have no intention of leaving canada, do it now. Just so long as it is done before her current status expires.

if you have no children leave out IMM0008DEP.

I dont know about any family register card. On the family members sheet I just wrote my families names and didnt include any additional proof for them. after all it is me applying not them.

1 - YES! any document that is not in english or in french needs to be translated. You can not do the translation yourself, it has to be done by a professional (certified) translator, as it is an official document.
2 - nobody will guarantee for sure. A lot of people have had their application returned because some documents were missing. So - best way to ensure fast processing is to get a complete application. If you send your application and it is returned, then you won't have implied status for your gf. So it's best to wait and send when you have everything.
3 - if you can't get the application on time, then extend her status, so you won't have the stress of finishing by a certain date. It's best to extend her visitor visa ( do the online procedure, it will buy you time), and take time to have a complete application, rather than sending everything in a hurry and getting the application returned.

for the family register, - I have no idea.
Good luck!

Hi all, just another fast move from the Canadian gov,t... why did you not marry her in Canada ... then apply within Canada... stupid move... your lucky she was with you... we are waiting outside Canada.... wake up smell the coffee!!!!!!

I really really need all your help with your knowledge and opinion for this. I will try to be as direct as possible.

Objective: (1) Apply for a visitor visa (2) Apply for in-land common-law marriage

Scenario:
-I have been dating with my japanese girlfriend since June 2011 (18 months)
-She has been living with me for over 12 consecutive months by the time we apply for common-law
-Her working holiday visa expires Dec 21, 2012
-She needs to apply for a visitor visa to end her stay
-We are applying for common-law in-land sponsorship in middle of January 2013 (taking time to put things together)
-Her agency advice her that she needs a minimum of $9000 to be "safe" to apply for a visitor visa to extend her stay in canada

Problems:
-Her agency says she needs official "bank statement" from the bank stamped showing her all her accounts as "sole responsibility" with "NO joint accounts"
-We have over 5 accounts including visa "joint responsibility" together (planning to remove all of them tomorrow with bank manager and change to "sole responsibility")
-We need to change back the "sole responsibility" accounts to "joint responsibility" accounts in January when we apply for common-law as evidence of joint things together for common-law (ex: chequing account, e-savings account, credit card - all joint)

Questions:
Q1: Does she need $9000 or that much money to switch from a working holiday visa and then apply for a visitor visa? Does the government really need that much? (Her japanese agency says she needs to)
Q2: Does she need to keep all $9000 in her account during the process while she waits for her visitor visa? Or can she take it out anytime after she has applied?
Q3: If we removed all "joint" accounts and changed them to "sole responsiblity" accounts for her, will we it be okay?
******* During process for visitor visa - it will say her accounts are "sole responsible" WHILE we apply for common-law, we will switch back to "joint responsible" to show evidence for things shared together.********
Q4: We can apply for common-law while she is still waiting for approval from visitor visa? She has "implied status"? Im assuming it should be okay?

Thank you dearly for all that can help us with this urgency. My girlfriend is in tears and panicking of what should we do. She realized it was big mistake to apply so late. I hope we can be assured and have a wonderful christmas together.

God bless you and Merry Christmas to you and your love ones.
