I am currently on a 3 years OWP and working full time for a firm in Ontario. Just found out that I am pregnant. I guess according to OHIP policy I will be eligible to apply for OHIP at the end of Nov ( worked six months) this year.

Anything I can do to fastrack this ?
If I apply in Nov, do I still need to do that 3 months waiting period?
should I get married and start applying for PR with my Canadian fiancée? then get OHIP?
is there medical insurance out there to cover the period before applying OHIP?

Thank you guys for your help!!!

If you have been working full-time in Ontario for 3 years on work permit, how come you don't have OHIP already?

You should be able to qualify for OHIP 3 months after becoming a resident of Ontario. If you started in May, then wouldn't you be eligible in (end of) August?

You don't need to be a PR to get OHIP. You just need to have valid (permanent or temporary) resident status and be living in Ontario. That includes being a student or a temporary worker. I was in Ontario on a work permit from 2001-2009 and had OHIP the entire time with the exception for the first 3 months mandatory waiting period.

I think you have misunderstood the "6 month" requirement. That means that you must be contracted to work for at least 6 months. It is not a 6 month waiting period. For most people there is a 3-month waiting period, which (depending on when you started working) you may have already fulfilled.

It all depends on the terms of your employment; were you hired for a specific length of time? Are you a "permanent" employee? If you don't have a contract that spells out the details, you'll need a letter from your employer...
