Really it's no problem Marlena.. it's hard to stay in perspective for our own cases sa7? We panic.. because we don't want anything to go wrong! Try to get all they ask for and I'm sure you are not the FIRST case this has happened to them. I guess it's just standard to ask for those not registered in Lebanon. Your marriage is legal.. nothing else to worry about.. just explain it all. Best wishes !

Boncuk, the lawyer sent an email telling them that I have sent my passport and the 2 picture , because he is my representive .
The problem with DHL is that they don't have a return envelop service between lebanon and Damscus, I will wait an email from Damscus telling me that the passport is ready, I will make DHL make an order along with my B number to get the passport back from Damscus

ok ill explain here about the lebanese civil affairs law regarding marriage.

IN lebanon marriage is done by the relative religious authority.in the case of Muslims there is the Islamic jaafrite court and the sunni islamic court. both islamic courts perform marriage LEGALLY as they issue a Court order in the name of the cabinet of the ministers(majles el wozara) . regarding the christian sects the marriage is performed at the church under the church authority which is a SPIRITUAL authority and not LEGAL(i.e islamic courts have a judge,clerk....its a realy full functioning court) .

now about marriage registration, in case of muslim marriages, failure to register does not invalidate the marriage coz its a court order but in the case a couple doesnt register they will need the court order to proove they are legally married, the paper in arabic is called "Isbat zawaj" issued by the court in the name of the cabinet of the ministers, thus a legally issued court order.

in the case of christians, failure to register Invalidates the christian marriage(atleast legally infront of the gov). so christians are more "obliged" than muslims to regsiter coz if they dont, they have no legal proof of their marriage.

when it comes to Civil marriage, it can not be performed in lebanon, but a civil marriage performed in a diff country is recognizable in leb in matters of birth registration, death ow hek...
but u cant execute the marriage IN lebanon. however that doesnt invalidate the marriage, its perfectly legal and is recognized by all countries.

Thank you Boujasim. Tomorrow I will ask my husband what kind of documents he needs in order for me to be registered. i guess my birth certificate "shihada wiladah wa 3emad" and "wasiqa wiladah" as well original marriage certificate would probably be sufficient.

Thank you Boncuk!!!!

hey i just spoke to my friend at the lebanese embassy in caracas-venezuela,he told me they DO regsiter venezuelan marriages. so i checked the lebanese embassy website in ottawa and here is whats written:

Marriage:

In person

1- Fill out a Marriage Application.

2- Husband’s recent (not older than 1 year) original personal and family Ikhraj Kayd with two photocopies.

3- Wife’s recent (not older than 1 year) original personal and family Ikhraj Kayd with two photocopies.

4- Canadian original statement of marriage (long form) with two photocopies / or one notarized copy with two photocopies.

5- Spouse’s statement of birth (if not Lebanese) with two photocopies.

6- The amount of $10.00 to open a family file at the Embassy (in case it is not available).

This formality is free of charge.

N.B: An attestation will be issued by the Embassy confirming the registration.

By Mail

In addition to the above-mentioned, please send 2 self-addressed stamped, Express Post, envelopes with phone number:

a- First envelope, to return the original documents to applicant.
b- Second envelope, to mail the new Ikhraj Kayd upon reception from Lebanon (In case the second envelope is not available the Ikhraj Kayd remains in the family file).

* Total fees for several formalities should be paid by one money order.

Hi guys,

am reading all of this, and I come back to the beginning and ask...Marlena, you got married in Canada - you have a valid legal marriage, what is the issue??? You did not marry in Lebanon and therefore wont have all of the legal papers necessary for a legal Christian marraige IN lebanon [plus you need to go through the church].

I just saw bouj';s last post isa this will guide you well.

good luck :)

my hubby got his AOR in email today too :).

I called the embassy in Ottawa and they confirm they won't register my civil marriage because they need the certificate from the church which it's stupid because I don't have it.
Spoke to my husband and he will go tomorrow to see if they accept anything otherwise I am writing back the embassy and explain the reason why my husband civil Status won't change to married or why he can't add me in his family list as his spouse. I don't thing it's a big deal but I am not and IO who is deciding for my life.
Rasha yes I'm legally married in Canada but because I guess me and my husband come from the same religion I believe they IO is wondering what is stopping us from marrying the Christian way (in the church). Worse case scenario or they will delay the process until the other ceremony take place than I can provide them with what they need.
Also I don't know if you read the letter that my husband received from Damascus for the additional documents that prompt to all sort of questions.

Again if it meant to be it will be and if they are going to make it difficult well I'll have a full patience because I know my marriage is pure and real doesn't matter where it took place ....

Thank you all for your support and help !!!Boujasim thank you for all the information that you had provided me with in a hope that everything will be OK.

Rasha congrats on your husband AOR that he personally received.

In overall it was a good week including myself :). Rorita I'm in deir el salib in u ever want to visit me just kidding.
