Unfortunately, I was caught shoplifting (under $20) 6 days before my oathtaking schedule this Friday 13 (superstition?).

So, my questions are:
-Am I obliged to call Citizenship Canada and inform them about this?
-What would happen to my citizenship application?

I don't know what to do. Sigh.
check out this link,you are eligible for citizenship this time because you would not be if criminal case occurred during 3 years before applying for citizenship,not after that.it does not let me to post the link but source is very creditable,you can find link in canadavisa.com,under canadian citizenship eligibility
If any of the following apply to you, you may not qualify for citizenship:

You have had your citizenship taken away within the past five years;
You are currently, or have been convicted of a criminal offence in the past three years;
You are in prison, on parole or on probation;
You are under removal order from Canada;
You are under investigation for, or have been convicted of a war crime or a crime against humanity.

I still think the best thing to do is to seek legal advice. But if you're still not charged or accusedthe day of your Oath (by a formal Court, not a store owner) I don't see anything saying you need to inform CIC about that.

You don't have to tell CIC anything. You have not convicted of an indictable (criminal) offence.

the amount of moralistic bs on this thread is incredible. OP has made a mistake and I'm sure he has learnt from it.

In any case, I suggest taking advise from a criminal lawyer regarding your shop lifting case. Lawyer may be able to get it dismissed and you may not end up with a criminal record. Don't write letters to shop keepers or admit to it. You are innocent until proven guilty. Contact a criminal lawyer asap.
