Hi

we have a family member who has been arrested by Vancouver police and put in hospital under self harm act.

All family members are in India and none of them have a visitor visa to Canada. We are trying to reach out if there’s a way to expedite the visa processing so that they can be with this family member as soon as possible.

The family member is a student at SFU Vancouver and has no access to legal aid and can not make sound decisions since he is depressed.

Thanks

I'm sorry for your family member's situation. That must be very stressful.

There is no specific expedite process. The family members who want to travel should submit TRV applications asap and with an ask that processing be expedited. If possible, they should include some sort of evidence of what's happening in Canada (e.g. something from the police or hospital if possible). If not possible, then include a letter. Make sure all those applying are full vaccinated.

I would recommend they also reach out to SFU to see if there is any assistance they can provide. I'm not sure they can, but worth trying.

When applying for visa how does one ask that process is expedited? do we mention this on the letter of explanation?

According to this link, you should apply online. They specifically mention providing care for a critically ill person (which sounds like this could qualify.)

Best of luck and hope your family member recovers soon and fully.

Would suggest the person with the best chance of being the health proxy travel. A parent would be the best option.
