Urgent citizenship query

My physical residence of 1095 days is completing on April 29, 2015.

I have a query -

I have never left Canada since I became PR. Now I want to go to USA for 5-7 days. Its not of utmost necessity. But I just would want to take a break and visit USA to see my friends.

So my question is - What you guys suggest, should I go or not??? My main concern is Bill C-24 as I am not sure when they are going to implement it.

Should I take chance?

Will 5-7 days being out of Canada make any difference??? Is there more chance of getting RQ as compared to the situation when we don't leave canada at all?

Taking a holiday and visiting a family or friends abroad won't get you RQ. I would be more concerned about bill c24. If I were you, I would visit after I submitted my application. Good luck.

Do you understand what RQ represents? From you post, you seem not to have an understanding. The 1st solution is for you to understand it and what it is used for. If you have never left Canada during your qualifying period, how does an RQ come in??

I have seen people in this forum who never left canada and still got RQ so it does not mean that if you leave canada, it will trigger RQ.
There are various factors for RQ so just google it. The RQ factor comes into picture by assessing the whole application instead of relying that the person left canada for n number of days.


Intent to reside clause would apply with new C-24 bill and if it comes into effect and after that if you apply then it can be a point of concern. If you apply before c-24 bill 4/6 rule comes into force then just relax.

Live a little more...don't be afraid especially if you haven't done anything. Everyone Needs a break ! Don't punish yourself by not going and depriving yourself of the experience which is ultimaty WAY more special/precious... Enjoy!

Hi there,

Traveling outside Canada "may" increase your chances of an RQ. I say "may" because there is no clear-cut rule as to how these are sent (There is a bunch of guidelines) but some people end up getting them even if they don't fit the criteria.

From another angle, the 4/6 rule is about to be applied. A lot of people are saying "this summer", but it's all speculations.

My 2 cents... Wait before applying if the travel is not important.

My travel history to the States is pretty intensive (17 trips in 4 years) as I have parents living there. They did ask about my purpose of these trips in the interview. Since I have established strong bonds with Canada through my personal and professional life, the officer was very satisfied and invited for the Oath.

Take your vacation, enjoy your life, spend time with friends and family - you will never regret it . . . . don't tie your life down to the citizenship frenzy. Just make sure you get your passport stamped at the border and remember the travel dates for your application. . . And make sure you adjust for the 7 days outside the country.

You my friend, couldn't have said it any better. I see people getting way too caught up with the citizenship frenzy and forget about "living life". You will still qualify for citizenship just NOT when you think you want it. If you prefer to wait, that is also your choice. YOLO YOLO

There is no travel ban for PRs!

It will not cause RQ unless you are gone so long that you fall short of physical presence or something else indicates that your absences might be longer than declared.

Don't deprive yourself of your own rights in the hope that it makes you a better immigrant.

It doesn't. Cic doesn't care if you go to the US for a week.
