My husband and I will be returning to Canada from the United States with our newborn and need to get a Citizenship Certificate as soon as possible in order for the baby to be eligible for health coverage from Quebec. I read that the standard processing time of this certificate is at least 5 months from within Canada, but they have urgent processing for situations like ours. Specifically, I'm citing the urgent basis from the CIC website that "You need a citizenship certificate to access certain benefits such as a pension, a Social Insurance Number, or health care." Does anyone know how quickly the "urgent" applications are typically processed? I'm wondering if that means it may be processed in 4 months or it could be processed in a matter of weeks. I can't seem to find any information about this online.
Thanks!
