Hi all,

So, my package was meant to arrive on the 12th. Everything was fine...shipped out of China, arrived in the US, then to Canada (Hamilton). The package arrived in Hamilton at 6am. It's been sitting at the airport for the whole day! The excuse I got from UPS was that it arrived too late to be sent out for delivery. So, going by that BS logic, a package must arrive before 6am of that day in order for UPS to put it on a truck and deliver it. Unbelievable.

I called UPS and the person I spoke had no idea what was going on, and when I told her that's not good enough, she put me on hold to speak with a supervisor. I've now been on hold waiting for about 15 minutes. Seriously, this is total crap! I paid UPS...they have not fulfilled their end of the agreement. When I eventually talk to a supervisor, I'm going to a) demand that my package be put in priority for delivery, and b) a complete refund...or some form of compensation.

If you're running a logistics company, the main thing is to get your customer's package delivered by the scheduled date, otherwise your business is crap. Sure, customs can hold things up, which is understandable, but documents? Nah...no way customs would hold a package full of documents...

Anyways, I'm really disappointed with the level of service, or lack thereof...

Still waiting...waiting...

Ah, finally, got to speak with the supervisor...same run around...the guy I spoke to was from the Philippines, so at least he could understand my frustration and anxiety...he said that he will do his best to make sure the package is delivered on Friday...yeah...they better deliver it on Friday! It's about 30 minutes by highway from the destination...UPS!!! Damn...never again!

Breathe, grasshopper. It is very nearly there, and yes, UPS is kind of sucky, I usually prefer FedEx or DHL for international work. UPS is OK in-country.

I'm like a volcano...a time bomb...my fuse is very short...I'm on edge...China...my job...it's all coming undone! I need to get out...I need to get back home...and now this? I wish I were a grasshopper...I'd just fly away...unfortunately my wife has broken my wings and is in the process of stir-frying them for breakfast! Honestly, I told her to use the fastest service...that the money didn't matter...and guess what...she chose the slowest to save the money...I spent weeks and countless hours on this...I'm dumbfounded...

At least the grasshopper comment made me smile...and today is Friday...but still...I cannot believe this has happened.

The package is not lost, according to UPS...they just haven't sent it to the dispatch location for sorting and delivery...it best be on a truck tomorrow and delivered!!!

I'm at the breaking point! I just can't believe it...

DHL is not better than UPS. It took almost 3 weeks for a document from China to be received here in Vancouver.

Honestly speaking, UPS and DHL are faster than regular mail and EMS/Canada post which took over a month to reach Vancouver! The extra money is worth it!

Hey FS, I can completely understand your frustration. But, out of complete concern here, this is only one small upset and you need to relax because in a very short time, your application will be in immigration's hands and they don't have a tracking number. Be prepared for long waits with no updates. If you are upset now, I don't even wanna see you when you are waiting longer with nothing... your horse is barely outta the gate so no need to panic just yet ok? just take deep breathes...

Just relax Fencesitter. It will arrive. It will than just sit there for 8 weeks before it is opened. If you go off like that already, how you want to withstand the rest of the time? I was in January in China and my parents had to send me a very important document express from Canada to China. We paid 67$ for the document to arrive in 4 business days. Guess what, it got stuck in Beijing. Reason? They had no phone number to call the address to make sure someone is there. For all heavens sake, for that they had the address, so deliver. Nope, no delivery. It actually never arrived and hours of talking to Purolator did bring nothing. We paid 67$ for zilch and I ended up having big trouble as I did not sign the document to be returned. That much to modern logistics. No wonder that nowadays more and more people switch to online business. The old fashioned CIC does not even allow for a USB stick or CD to send for pictures and other proof. They could safe us and all others a lot of headaches if they would allow the use of electronic storage devices. They would get a USB stick full of data and maybe a second one as backup if the first one does not work.

This made me laugh. You will feel relief when it is delivered. And then you get to suffer the 83 day wait with us. Yep they increased the waiting time. 30 to 55 to 75 to 83. Step 1 is so ridiculously long right now!

I am very curious about life in China. I used to teach at a school that had a group of 50 ten to twelve year olds from China. They lived in apartments with teachers and were at our school for one year. I enjoyed them very much and wish I could travel to China. The only reason why I would not want to go there is because I don't think I could handle seeing the suffering of animals. I have seen pictures that make my heart break. I am a big animal lover and a vegetarian. I hate it where I am too so I understand you want out bad!

Fencesitter, I know what you mean...you pay them extra money to get their a certain time and it doesn't happen. Onetime I paid extra $24 to get something in 2 days delivery time on Amazon but got it the 3rd day...not the same as yours, but I feel your pain. I sent by USPS and tracked it this morning...it says in ready for delivery in Canadian post office...same status as yesterday. So I don't know what that means...but it's suppose to take 3 to 5 days...I sent it last friday...so it better be there tomorrow! Yours too!

I'm chinese and born and raised in Canada. The first time I went to China was in 2005, 14 weeks pregnant w/my first child. We went to a city called Tai Ping, an hour bus ride from Shen Zen and was there for 10 days. I swear, that was the longest 10 days I felt. I guess being pregnant had alot to do with it, but outside smelled like motor oil everywhere. So I could hardly breath and at the same time wondering if the smell was going to harm my baby. Back then they still allowed mopeds there and there were tons of them kicking out stinky exhaust. We went to Shen Zen for 2 days and the smell was much better and better food there too. I never want to go back to that little city again...Tai Ping. We went there cause my husband was looking into doing business there. Otherwise I would love to visit Shanghai, BeiJing and Hongkong in the future. We also went to HK for a day during that trip. My brother actually would love to live in Shanghai or BeiJing in the future...he's never been to China before though. I guess it depends where you live in China will depend on your experience there. Would never go back to TaiPing but would love to check out the other major cities.

I encourage you to visit Hong Kong. There are organisations such as SPCA (Hong Kong) promotes animal welfare.

Lemondrop, there are some places like that. We have such places here to in Canada. in heavy industrial areas and I have seen dead lakes down in US where you could see the once beautiful tourist attractions and beaches deserted, infested with dead fish and a smell I never smelled before. The lake was so big it took us 3 hours to drive around it. I was in Beijing, Taiyuan, Guangzhou and Zhuhai. All larger cities with poor areas and modern subdivisions. What strikes me on China is the new infrastructure like trains, airports and special development zones like Zhuhai. like any other country you can find good and bad. I think it does not matter where you live as long as you work and live a normal life. What makes Canada unique is its health care system, wonderful nature and its predictability.

I have a good friend who lives in HK. He was an international student at my college and I was his English tutor. I wish I could visit. It is harder to travel when you have children. Thanks for sharing your experience, I find it so interesting.

I have read about the pollution in China, so bad. And the overpopulation. The students I had were wealthy so I only learned about a perspective of privilege.
